Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Laufey has officially signed a global partnership contract with the United Talent Agency (UTA)

He was also named one of Time magazine’s 2025 Women of the Year and received the Crossover Artist of the Year award at the 2024 Variety Hitmakers.
Although he is known for his ability to blend pop music and traditional jazz to captivate the younger generation, the Berklee College of Music graduate is honestly reluctant to claim himself as a jazz musician.
“I think one of the reasons I don’t fully call myself a jazz artist is because not all my songs fall into that category. It can feel disrespectful to those who are purely jazz musicians if I call it a jazz album entirely,” Laufey said, quoted by Variety, Wednesday, July 29.
He added that his musical character is in a unique borderland and it is difficult to put it in one genre.
“On the other hand, there are many songs in my discography and on the album ‘Bewitched’ that resemble jazz standards and are very suitable for that environment,” he continued. “So, it’s very difficult to put me in any category. If put in the pop category, I also don’t feel completely fit. That’s the only reason I don’t claim it.”
However, Laufey emphasized that his main foundation remains firmly rooted in classical and jazz music.
“I grew up listening to classical and jazz music, and it’s from jazz music that all my vocal inspiration comes from. I’m a trained jazz singer; that’s what I learned. So, mastering the charts is an honor,” said Laufey.
“I never imagined it, especially with a young audience who usually don’t listen to jazz. In my opinion, that’s what makes it so cool,” he concluded.
