After 16 years of waiting, The Cure finally has a new album.
The veteran post-punk band announced today (December 1) the release of a new live album, recorded during their recent London show.
apt title Live World Song: Troxy London MMXXIV Recorded at the eponymous venue on November 1, the album captures “a very special night” ahead of the release of their first album in 16 years, Song of the Lost World.
The show itself was live-streamed on YouTube, with the band performing the entire eight-song album on the day of its release. In addition, the album features a further 23 songs from their illustrious career, including a five-song suite from their 1980s second record seventeen seconds.
While the full show is still available on YouTube, the audio mix by Robert Smith will be released on vinyl, CD and cassette in early 2025. to the UK charity War Children.
Release of “The Cure” Song of the Lost World It was a huge success for the veteran community. As well as giving the band their first UK number one hit since 1992 hopethe record also returned to the top of the US charts.
It became the band’s first No. 1 hit on the 33-year-old top album sales chart, and was the band’s highest ranking on the Billboard 200 since 1992 (No. 4). No. 1 on the Alternative Music Charts.
The album’s first-week sales were supported by five vinyl releases (23,000 copies sold in total; the band’s best week on vinyl since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991), a standard CD , a CD/Blu-ray audio package, two cassettes, a standard digital download and a deluxe digital download containing five additional live tracks (exclusively available from the band’s online store).
