Marvel Studios made a triumphant return to San Diego Comic-Con, featuring dancing Deadpool variants and a choir, unveiling exciting updates about the next two “Avengers” films and hosting surprise guests like Harrison Ford and Robert Downey Jr. Downey is set to return to Marvel’s films, but not as Iron Man. Instead, he will portray the villain Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in at least one of the upcoming “Avengers” movies. Downey, who launched Marvel’s cinematic success with “Iron Man” and portrayed the beloved character in nine films, surprised fans by appearing in Dr. Doom’s mask and a green cloak on Saturday.
“New mask, same task,” Downey declared to ecstatic cheers.
The Russo brothers, who will direct the film featuring Downey, stated that his role in the movie signifies “proof of the unimaginable possibilities in the Marvel multi-universe.”
