Henning Molfenter, the long-time head of production at Germany’s famed location studio Studio Babelsberg, has formed his own company, Babelsberg Production Group ), hollywood reporter Already learned.
Morfunt has been head of film and television production at Babelsberg Studios since 2004, overseeing the production of feature films including Roman Polanski’s pianistQuentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterdsby Wes Anderson grand budapest hoteland the Russo Brothers’ Captain America: Civil War. Through his new company, Molfont will provide production services and co-production support to international film and television productions looking to shoot in Germany and throughout Europe. “We want to be the go-to service company for producers who want to shoot here,” Moffant told us THR.
Babelsberg Production Group will not develop its own IP but will provide services to visiting productions and can participate in projects as a German co-producer to receive local subsidies and tax benefits.

Molfenter’s exit from Studio Babelsberg comes as the company was acquired by TPG Real Estate, a US investment group that also owns the Cinespace Studios backlots in Chicago and Toronto. Molfont believes that with a smaller customization operation, he will be more nimble and better able to meet the needs of visiting producers.
The new company will be officially established in January.
