Blue Bloods has done it again with another great episode.
It’s hard for me to focus because I know that this time next week I’ll be trying to hold back tears and collect my thoughts on the series finale.
But Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 17 didn’t give any indication that it was the penultimate episode. It just delivers the strong story and family moments that make this show so special.
Danny is teased at Sunday dinner and spends the rest of the week working on a heartbreaking case
Danny and Baez must do one of the most difficult things a police officer has ever done: comfort a woman who has lost her child to suicide.
Gabby’s mother desperately wants to believe that one of the girls who bullied her daughter also took her life, and Danny is almost as eager to get that to her.
I was moved when he promised the woman that they would find Gabi’s killer.
They say never make a promise you’re not sure you can keep, and ultimately, what Danny finds is evidence that Gabby committed suicide.
In that moment, that woman needed to hear that he would fight for the truth about her daughter. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out the way she wanted.
It’s all heartbreaking, and it makes me enjoy the family dinner scene even more than I normally would.
At the Reagan family dinner, everyone makes fun of Danny while Sean tries to share the good news that he has enough credits to graduate from NYU a year early.
Their good-natured banter gives Danny and the audience a break from this deeply sad case, which we all need more than ever.
Sean’s news may make Danny think about the case, because the girl committed suicide in the dormitory. She lives in a high school, not a college, but the analogy is easy to make.
Instead, Danny must celebrate his son’s achievements, joke about how much NYU tuition is, and take some good-natured ribbing in stride.
I agree with Danny, studying abroad for a year probably won’t cost more than NYU. Manhattan as a whole is expensive, and one of the city’s leading universities can cost twice as much.
By the way, as a trans person, I feel obligated to say that I was not offended by Henry’s joke that if Sean changed his pronouns, Henry would be out.
Some may think this joke is anti-trans, but it’s not. Everyone was teasing Sean about what his news might be, and Henry knew Sean wouldn’t make such an announcement.
I also believe that if Sean or anyone in the family came out as trans or anything else, they would be loved just as much even if their family didn’t fully understand because that’s just how the Reagan family operates.
I found it strange that Sean had no idea what was going to happen next. One must major in something, and most colleges will provide guidance on determining your first job or career path.
It’s a good thing for the school when new graduates find good jobs, so they’re usually happy to assist.
Still, it’s nice to see Sean wanting advice from his family about his future. I wonder if this will come up in the finale, or if his early graduation is the end of his character’s story.
Eddie and Jamie’s Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 17 The Story Is Weird
I hope Eddie and Jamie can work together on the squatter story instead of feuding.
They don’t get enough screen time, and with the show running out of time left, I hate wasting precious time on Jamie, hoping Eddie gives up his CI and Badillo is furious about it.
I understand why Badillo was angry, but his flirting with Jamie didn’t do anything. Fortunately, CI was attacked before Badillo said or did something he couldn’t undo.
The whole story is very strange.
By law, if someone has lived somewhere for a certain amount of time, they are considered a tenant, and Vince didn’t have the money to file an eviction lawsuit (although he could travel a lot.)
Nonetheless, there are tenants’ rights associations that offer pro bono assistance in such situations.
Vince: How did you arrest me?
Eddie: Let’s see, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief…
Vince: I was banging on the window.
Badillo: Your crappy aim could kill someone.
Throwing rocks through the windows had no effect other than getting Vince into trouble.
Strangely, in the final scene, he begs the police to help him until he returns to his apartment, whereupon he disappears.
I imagine someone like Vince would be in the precinct every day, bugging them about when they were going to do something about his problems.
Erin is smiling, but is there something going on off-screen that should be on-screen?
It looks like Erin and Jack are back together, unless I’m misreading the body language.
They were holding hands and smiling broadly, and Erin said she wanted Anthony to be the one with Deanna because she wanted to share the wealth and because things were going well for her and Jack.
I thought she might be referring to their friendship, but that seems unlikely.
Erin and Jake getting back together is big news, so why is this happening off-screen?
Based on what Bridget Moynahan said in interviews, I thought they would officially announce it during the finale, so it’s shocking that this seems to be happening without anyone noticing.
That’s not cool either.
There are barely any hints about how Blue Bloods will end, and if Jack and Erin make it to the final stretch, we should be eating more than one family dinner and happily hanging out in the park in Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 11 walk.
This should be a real story that we can debate and take sides on all season long.
Erin’s blind date story is cute, but I wonder why she doesn’t have something better to do.
I’m not interested in whether she succeeded in pushing Anthony and this woman together.
I agree with Anthony that dating someone who was a witness just minutes ago is a bad idea, and I’d rather Erin work on one more case before the finale.
Frank tries to help the governor, but does he see that?
I’ve never been a fan of the governor. His personality seems to be somewhere between dark and weird.
If he’s willing to co-sponsor the legislation Frank hopes to pass on bail reform (or more appropriately, bail non-reform, as Frank hopes to once again reverse more lenient bail rules), Frank should seize the opportunity to put his priorities in front of the Legislature.
Frank is the political opposite, but I’m not sure what he was trying to accomplish in Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 17 by complaining about the governor’s wife’s bad behavior instead of accepting help.
Still, there was a problem with that wife, who got drunk in public and embarrassed her husband. She should be arrested, it should be a wake-up call for her, but will it be?
Frank warned the governor that this was the last favor he would do him in connection with the matter.
If there’s another season, the Governors may show up again to try and save the situation.
