introduce:
The series finale was probably one of the best endings I’ve seen on a TV series recently, with action, drama, and tons of emotion. This episode is the show’s last hurray and final battle. I love that Smallville didn’t feel so empty in the show’s final two episodes, and since we witnessed the panic among the town’s residents at the end of last week’s episode 9, the show definitely saved some money on its budget to provide all the explosions and The longest and final action sequence is the damage done to Smallville town centre.
end
The battle between the newly mutated Doomsday and Superman continues this week, with Superman facing death in this episode and having to come to terms with the idea of having his sons help. Clark had to carry his burdens alone for most of his life, so sharing that burden was very difficult for him. Superman eventually relents and lets them help after an argument with Lois, and the boys who help him manage to give John Henry enough time to incapacitate Doomsday with his hammer, allowing Superman to fly him into the sun to kill Doomsday for good . The show’s Doomsday is a sad, tragic figure whose life on another Earth flashes before his eyes, and who dies one final time when Superman sends him into the sun.
Lex
The first half of the episode continues the show’s exciting action sequences, with Lex and Superman fighting in the air after Lex’s Plan A (Doomsday) fails. This episode shows how unhinged Lex was when he unleashed Doomsday in Smallville and brutally watched from the sky, hoping Doomsday would kill Superman again. When Superman snatches Doomsday from Smallville, Lex sees this as an opportunity to hunt down his now-vulnerable nemesis Lois Lane, but Lois is ready for him.
Lex doesn’t love anyone at all, he’s selfish. Lex tries to kill Amanda because he saw his true identity, and then tries to kill Jordan (a teenage boy) to take the cake. It’s so satisfying to watch Superman return after a season of depression and go all-out against Lex. Superman punched Lex hard, destroying his super suit (John Henry’s stolen suit to be exact). It’s so sad to say goodbye to one of the most visually stunning shows on American network television. Prison, but that changes over time and Bruno Mannheim is now the big boss and ready to make Lex’s prison life hell.
One year later:
At the beginning of the finale, we learned that John Henry and Lana were still hanging out, and their “friendly date” at the bar was interrupted by Doomsday and Superman fighting. This leads to the first scene after the time jump a year later, where both John Henry and Lana have their happy endings (wedding). John was heartbroken over the death of his wife at the start of the show, so it’s nice to see him finally find happiness, while Lana was happily married at the start of the show and ended up getting divorced. It was a good choice for Louise to marry them because of her friendship with both of them.
I’m glad that the show, after spending a full season with fans, finally (speaking for myself) presented a couple that I wanted to see. I wish this season had shown us more of John Henry and Lana actually dating, but I’m glad we got to see them get married, and we’re happy when the show moves forward a year. Kris and Kyle were also expecting their second child during this time. I’m glad Lana and Kyle reconciled and are now one big happy family. John Henry and Natalie also felt like they found their home on Earth during the time jump, which was awesome.
Sarah Cushing returns to Smallville after a year away to attend her mother’s wedding. It’s funny that Sarah avoids the barn because she thinks it’s cursed (she always says that during the show), but we also get a great final scene between Jordan and Sarah. I love that the show has an open ending, we never actually get confirmation that the boys end up with Sarah and Candace, but fans can believe that if they want to since they haven’t confirmed the names of their future wives. The older actresses who are Jon and Jordan’s wives definitely look like older versions of Candace and Sarah.
fast forward:
We also meet older Lois, Clark, Jon, and Jordan, and learn that Superman helps people in different ways besides using his powers. The episode gets really emotional when we learn that years later, when they were both much older and now their grandparent, Lois, had her cancer return, Clark stood by her until her death. Clark bought himself an emotional support dog named Krypto, but his heart eventually failed in the same spot where his father, Jonathan Kent, died, but Kyle was there so he didn’t die on the way. Clark eventually died at his farmhouse in Kent and spent the afterlife with Louise. I loved seeing Clark walk around the house saying goodbye to everyone in his life, and we even got to see Lex Luthor one last time and learn that Clark forgave Lex in true Superman fashion. The last scene in the final montage is my favorite, Lois is so beautiful in a red dress (one of her most iconic looks from the series) waiting for Clark outside the front door of the farmhouse. Clark and Lois were perfect as the final act of the show.
Other ideas:
1. David Giuntoli (from Grimm) is Bitsie’s husband and it looks like he could be Tyler Hoechlin’s brother haha, so seeing him play adult Jon is perfect casting.
2. I wish we had a clearer shot of Natalie, John Henry, Jordan and Jon’s new super suits. The brief scenes with the suits were great, but I’m kind of sad inside that we don’t get to see that anymore.
3. If you’re listening to the CW brass, I personally would be happy for a “Brotherhood” spin-off like most fans, haha.
4. The show is a great love letter to Superman and Lois’ iconic romantic relationship. Clark and Lois don’t need emotional drama to be a couple, and this show proves that fact. Theirs is truly one of the greatest love stories of all time.
in conclusion
I can’t think of how they could have ended this show better than dealing with budget cuts. The ending was bittersweet and emotional, but it’s my favorite Arrowverse ending. The Arrowverse ends on a high note.
