As season one draws to a close, the medical cases and relationships on Brilliant Minds tie up loose ends.
Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 11 seemed to tie together Carol’s connection with Alison and her marital problems with Maurice. Dr. Wolfe and Dr. Nichols disagreed over whether Wolfe’s old patient should undergo brain surgery to eliminate Tourette’s syndrome.
Additionally, Van and Jacob’s rivalry with Erica intensifies, and she hates feeling like a pawn in a chess game.
Alison’s need for attention almost cost Carol her career
Stories of extramarital affairs abound on television. However, Brilliant Minds broadens this scope, making both Alison and Carol want to know about “the other woman.”
While Carol is usually fierce, she breaks down when Alison overdoses and worries that her decisions have pushed Alison to the edge.
It’s doubtful that Alison will be able to get any more information about Maurice’s affair, but Alison also wants to know about Carol. Oliver comforts Carol, telling her that she needs to move on and to be grateful that Alison is still alive.
Initially, it’s hard to appreciate this because Allison acts like a villain, blaming or harassing employees to get her fired.
Carol: Alison, I too wish things were different, but here we are
Alison seems to want to ruin Carol’s life because she thinks Carol’s life is perfect.
However, Carol struggled with postpartum depression after giving birth to Maya and was a highly stressed and nervous first-time parent. She wasn’t always so calm and calm.
Alison finally comes to terms with her family history, which left her terrified of being alone. She met Carroll’s diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. While her arc provided some interesting character development for Carol, I was relieved to be done with it.
After the truth was revealed, Carol made a decision about marriage.
When the truth comes out, Carol is forced to make a decision about her marriage. As stated in Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 4, even if you don’t want your teens to notice things, they will.
Maya suspected something was wrong as Carol rushed home to talk to Maurice privately, enough to bring her mom lunch so they could talk.
It’s always tough when a teen realizes her parents’ marriage is over, and it’s even worse when a teen realizes one of her parents is cheating on her.
Teenage girls often idolize their fathers, so learning that he hurt her mother and their family is devastating. While Carol tried to remain impartial and said both she and Maurice were responsible, Maya didn’t buy that excuse.
After young Morris promised never to hurt Carol or baby Maya, Carol stopped doing so. She is ready to move on and wants a divorce.
Although she loved Maurice, she could not forgive him after everything she had done for him and her family. This episode belonged to Tamberla Perry and Kaci Walfall, who rocked two versions of Carol Pierce.
Oliver and Josh disagree on how to treat patients
Weekly promos make Oliver and Josh’s disagreement look more serious than it actually is. Oliver was right, they saw their careers differently.
I feel for Ezra. I have a physical disability and everyone looks at me and treats me differently when they realize I’m different.
Oliver makes a valid point: society is mean, and Ezra has no responsibility to fit into the world. However, Josh is also right, if brain surgery can reduce his tics and help him adjust to the world, shouldn’t they give it to him?
Josh: Ezra, it’s your choice. I agree with Dr. Wolfe. There is nothing wrong with having tics. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to change
Oliver more readily discussed his prosopagnosia, acknowledging how he had grown accustomed to it and accepting that it was part of who he was, so he didn’t want surgery to fix it.
Frustratingly, Ezra didn’t want to let Oliver down with surgery, and Josh felt insecure and wondered if Oliver felt neurosurgery was inferior to neurology.
As painful as that fight was, Oliver realized that Josh had some valid points. I love that he admitted that if some kind of treatment could help his father’s depression and bipolar disorder, he wouldn’t hesitate to do it.
Things get easier when Oliver admits that he thinks Josh is his equal, which is why he can argue with him.
I think Oliver and Josh are in it for the long term. They now respect each other’s differences and care deeply about each other.
Rivalry between Jacob and Van intensifies
Jacob discovers that Van was Erica’s late-night visitor that night, and the two begin a bet to see who can win the “game.” The game calls for getting as many patients out of the hospital as possible on the same day.
Van: May the best win.
Jacob: May the best man win.
While most people think Jacob only cares about competition, he has proven that he cares about his patients. Jacob may have saved Mac’s life when he noticed a change in Mac’s voice and noticed the way he was stumbling.
Mike has myasthenia gravis, which I heard about on Days of Our Lives. It affects nerves and muscles. Even Dr. Wolfe was impressed that Jacob gave up the competition and thought of taking care of his patients first.
This time, Van acts petty and rubs Jacob in the face that Erica chose him. They act like they’re back in high school. She was not a prize to be won, so Jacob gave up on the idea that Van would cause trouble if he had a child.
They act like idiots, but none of them look good, not even Erica because she uses Van. However, no one expected what would happen when they went home to cool off.
That suspense. Many TV shows feature residents trapped in elevators, but this is one of their own, with the building collapsing on top of it.
I hate that this show makes us wait in January for the final two episodes of the season, even though that scene will pull people back.
Every health care worker will fight for Erica and we want to see that.
So, Brilliant Minds Fanatics, what did you think of the fall finale? Are you relieved that Alison’s story is over? Were you expecting Oliver and Josh’s argument to have more serious consequences?
Who do you think will save Erica?
