The Living Dead is ready to return with a bang next year.
Living Dead Media reveals a new Return of the living dead The film will be released in 2025, which marks the 40th anniversary of the 1985 horror cult classic. Along the way, the company and its CEO Steve Wolsh confirmed details of the project, teasing it with a holiday-themed trailer. The footage, released today (not coincidentally) on Friday the 13th, shows the ghostly Tarman emerging from a snow-covered cemetery, dragging a Christmas tree across the landscape, while a rendition of Silent Night helps to create atmosphere. The trailer accomplishes its mission by announcing a planned Christmas 2025 release.
According to a press release obtained hollywood reporterThe Living Dead Media confirmed that the project will not be a reboot of the original, but a new installment of the beloved horror-comedy series. The story takes place in a small Pennsylvania town on Christmas Day 1985, 18 months after the events of the original film directed by Dan O’Bannon. The film follows two bumbling employees at a medical supply warehouse in Unida who accidentally release a deadly gas into the air, causing the dead to rise as zombies, infecting the entire town and inadvertently sealing its fate, triggering the Unfortunate events.
Walsh will direct from his own script, which he calls “a whole new adventure” that he sees as an extension of the series’ legacy. As for the trailer, the press release says it’s a practical effect that was created on set without CGI or green screens. The cemetery was designed as a tribute to Resurrection Cemetery. “Using our widescreen anamorphic lenses, we captured the effect of actual snowflakes swirling in the night sky, giving it a stunning look and texture that will amaze people to see the entire film made like this,” said die-hard fan And administrator Walsh talks about a world full of zombies.
The series has included five films, including the 1985 film and its 1988 sequel Return of the Living Dead II Ken Wiederhorn, 1993 Return of the Living Dead III Retrieved from Brian Yuzna, 2005 Return of the Living Dead: Graveyard From Ellory Elkayem and 2005 Return of the Living Dead: Graveyard Revival Also directed by Al Kayem. Tom Fox produced or executive produced all of the above. His son, Christopher W. Fox, will serve as executive producer on the new version.
Other details confirmed by the team: Special effects veteran Tony Gardner (Zombieland, Hocus Pocus 2, Chucky) has been used to establish the look of zombies in 2025 Return of the living dead. “[To be able to] Staying true to its roots despite fear, I feel I am the best person for the job,” he said in a statement. “I’m really excited.”
