    Brooklyn to host international film festival featuring 130 independent films

    Next week, Brooklyn startsGreenpoint Film Festival (GFF)This year, the festival will celebrate its 15th anniversary. It will feature one of the largest international programs in its history. Audiences will be treated to independent films from around the world, world premieres, meetings with directors, and professional discussions.

    This year’s Greenpoint Film Festival will take place from August 5th to 9th at Broadway Stages (259 Green St.).

    The organizers will transform one of the film studio’s pavilions into a fully-fledged cinema specifically for the festival.

    The theme of the 2026 festival will be “Unbound”.

    According to Greenpoint Film Festival Director Anthony Argento, the program includes films that “tell stories that challenge conventional wisdom, explore questions of identity, and offer a fresh perspective on мир».

    More than 130 films and world premieres

    The festival will feature 130 films, including more than a dozen world premieres:

    • At Work;
      • Chet Bueller: Attorney at Law;
      • Crybaby;
      • Fully Stocked;
      • Girl Talks Baby Giraffes;
      • Good Friends;
      • It’s Just a Word;
      • Return to Aquicuana;
      • Sidequest;
      • Sleep All Day;
      • Sympathy for the Devil;
      • Under One Roof;
      • Why Shells.

    Among the feature films, the organizers particularly highlight Mistake, Hoop Like This, Café Chairel, Nothing to See Here: Watts, and When We Were Live.

    On the subject: 14 Interesting Places to Visit in Red Hook

    Some of the most anticipated short films include JJ, A Young Sofiane, Furious, Bears in Hot Tubs, and Buffalo.

    After the screenings, there will be meetings with the authors.

    Almost every film screening will conclude with a Q&A session with the filmmakers. This will allow viewers to learn more about the filmmaking process.

    In addition, the festival will feature industry panel discussions.

    Organizers recommend attending sessions on SAG-AFTRA, artificial intelligence, entertainment law, and post-production.

    Special attention goes to the Polish film shot in Greenpoint

    One of the most significant works for local residents will be the short film The Last Goodbye.

    According to Argento, it was created by a Greenpoint-based team and filmed in the area. The film is shot in Polish, making it especially important for GreenpointA large Polish community lives here.

    What else will be included in the program?

    • 8 full-length feature films;
    • 6 full-length documentaries;
    • 91 short feature films;
    • 19 short documentaries;
    • 7 animated films.

    Ticket prices

    • Green Pass — $150 (access to the entire festival);
    • Day Pass — $50;
    • Ticket for the program (short and full-length film) – $20.

    Events for filmmakers

    For directors and film industry representatives, the organizers have prepared special events for meeting and networking.

    These include the Dancers x Filmmakers Mixer, which will take place on the evening of August 6, and the Filmmaker Friday Networking Party on August 7.

    According to Anthony Argento, this is a great opportunity for filmmakers, artists, and industry representatives to meet and network in an informal setting.
