The Yellowstone Ranch disappears, the cowboys scatter, and Beth and Jamie fight to the death.
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14 had some strong moments, almost like the ghosts of the series’ former glory were rising to remind us of what we’d lost not too long ago.
Everything works as intended, but “Life is a Promise” fails to shake off the mistakes of the past five episodes to the point where it’s not as powerful as it could be.
Yellowstone’s fate ends a long conflict, but Cowboys deserve more respect in wrap-up
I had predicted that Keyes would sell the ranch to the First Nations, although I had envisioned Keyes giving the ranch to them for free and then buying back partial ownership at a low price.
He said giving up the ranch was the only way to save it, but there was no giving up here.
The deal he made with Rainwater makes more sense. Once he bought the land, the rainwater would never be returned.
He’s been trying to get that land back since the first season of Yellowstone, and now he’s done it.
I’m not sure how I feel about this.
I’ve always loved storylines involving the Native Americans of Yellowstone, and the New Westerns do the best job of depicting issues like poverty on the reservations, prejudice against Native Americans, and the violence that some white people continued to inflict on them. .
Still, Casey doesn’t save the ranch in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14.
He saved it from developers who converted it into apartments and businesses, but the new owners quickly tore down all the existing buildings and some tribal members threatened to desecrate all the Dutton family graves if Mo wasn’t stopped. .
Rainwater promised to protect John and his legacy, but it seems he got what he wanted when the ranch ceased to exist. What good does this do to anyone other than rain? (I think it was Cathy, since he wanted to be free of the burden of John’s expectations.)
Furthermore, cowboys who were branded, loyal, and had spent most of their lives on the ranch quickly moved on to the next chapter of their lives.
Obviously, the cowboys had to leave because there were no longer ranches for them to work on, but they could have been more respectful.
We get almost no emotion other than Lloyd saying he would rather give up being a cowboy than stop working for the Yellowstone Ranch.
Everyone received a severance package from Rip, who asked them to help with John’s funeral before setting off. Then they started their new work.
It seems too simplistic and boring, as if it only focuses on the actual facts of what is going to happen and not how it will affect the Cowboys.
I know stoicism is part of cowboy culture, but it deserves more than what we get – not Travis’s.
Yellowstone National Park once again wastes time on self-indulgent nonsense before getting to the good stuff
It has become the norm for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 to waste about 20 minutes before getting to anything of value, and Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14 is unfortunately no exception.
“Life is a Promise” begins with a strong opening scene that has been indescribable for much of the season. However, Travis then told a long story that sent all the cowboys into hysterics.
I have no idea what that story is or why it’s so funny because my brain is stuck in an endless loop of annoyances and we’re messing around with Travis unnecessarily when we have more important things to do Time wasted on the scene.
I also don’t know why we needed Travis’ obnoxious behavior when Teeter got his first day on the job.
Maybe I’m just so tired of Travis that I can’t stand seeing him, but knowing that Teeter decided to work for him is enough for her – we don’t need to follow her to work just for Travis Si Si can insert a few more lines.
Seriously, is this just me, or could the longer-than-usual finale be shortened by eliminating most of Travis’ bullshit?
We finally get the vengeful Beth we’ve been waiting for all season
Ever since John was murdered, I’ve been waiting for the Beth who vowed to avenge John.
Where has she been all season?
We should have seen scene after scene of Beth chasing Jamie and Rip trying to control her, not the scene after the funeral, a fight, and Jamie dying after nearly killing Beth in the only episode they shared a scene with scene.
We were promised a war and we didn’t get one, and I will always be bitter about that.
Beth and Jamie’s fight was intense. They did everything they had to say and do, and the makeup department worked overtime to make their scars so real that I couldn’t bear to look at them.
I especially loved Jamie’s look of shock and dismay when Beth told him that she and Case had sold the ranch.
It was like he saw his victory slipping out from under him and he couldn’t believe he was defeated.
Beth’s final blow to Jamie was something he deserved.
He used to be a more interesting and complex character, but this season he’s just an idiot who doesn’t earn the goofy grin he always wears.
Still, it would be more satisfying if Beth and Jamie had an actual war, rather than phone threats for a few minutes each episode.
Apparently, there’s only one way to end this.
Rip and Beth will have a spinoff in Yellowstone , so there’s no way Beth dies at Jamie’s hands (that would be terrible, anyway).
Jamie needs to be put in his place, period. He’s too stupid to survive – does he really think he can get away with claiming to investigate John’s murder and denying his affair with Sarah?
The police are already on him, so if Beth doesn’t kill him, he’ll be arrested, even though he smirks and lies that he’s looking for John’s killer to protect the people of Montana.
But in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14, did Beth’s secret disappear along with Jamie?
Rip still doesn’t know that Beth miscarried their child when they were teenagers, or why she couldn’t have a baby.
If there was a real war between Jamie and Beth, Jamie could let Rip know about it and try to cause trouble between them.
Instead, he made the same, unspecific threats over and over again. He and Beth are so far apart in power that the story falls flat and lacks adequate screen time.
Now it looks like it will never happen, which is a shame.
As Rip and Beth begin their happily ever after at the end of Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14, I can’t help but wonder, what’s the point of having a secret between them if nothing is going to happen? Come out later anyway.
Random thoughts about Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 14
- The minister had no idea what was going on between him and Beth and Rip, especially Beth. The expressions on his face and his attempts to interact with them are hilarious.
- There were several times where I thought the episode was over. The scene where Rip and Lloyd drive away after disposing of Jamie’s body and car, and the scene where Keith and Beth close up the ranch for the last time are fitting ending scenes.
- I feel like if John’s funeral had been in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 9 and Beth had spent the rest of the season seeking revenge, instead of those flashbacks and other filler, I feel like we might have had a different story , a more powerful program.
- Elsa’s voiceover at the end is nice, but I can’t help but think that John might have done that voiceover if Kevin Costner hadn’t left the series.
