While fans wait boys Returning for its fifth and final season, producers Eric Kripke expressed his excitement about ending the series. He also promised some big changes to the show’s universe, and he acknowledged the pressure to bring the show a satisfying ending.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Kripke explained how knowing the endpoint freed up the creative team.
“As a filmmaker, anyway, it’s such a gift to know when your story is over, because you know when to blow it up and completely change the world of the show,” he said.
“You don’t have to maintain it because you have six seasons left. You have to make time for the final run. So, that’s what the finale is for.
The final episode of the series’ Season 4 set the stage for the finale, “Homelander.”Antony Starr) “succeeded in taking over everything and essentially turning the country into a kingdom led by Homelanders.”
He continued: “Instead of having a villain talk about what they’re going to do and then our hero stopping it from happening, it’s so funny that he actually does it. He takes over the country.
“This is his country now. What does that look like in Season 5, and how do our characters fight it? That brings a lot of fun to the writers’ room. I’m really excited about what we’ve come up with.
In another interview with Collider, Kripke revealed his concerns about a perfect ending. “The number of truly great series finales can be counted on one hand. It was so difficult to land that plane, let alone the eight different planes we had to land.
“I have the right amount of respect and the right amount of fear for how hard this job is. I’m not arrogant at all. I walk in and I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s give every decision a second and third try. Triple guessing, because we really want to land this plane.
Kripke added when talking about working on the show’s finale. “Anything could really happen. We were having a lot of fun and being absolutely terrified in the writers’ room. It was so much fun to have all the guardrails down.
“You don’t have to keep any storylines or characters beyond this season. Nothing and no one is safe, and that’s really liberating and fun.
I’m excited to see how this series finally ends! although boys The game is coming to an end, though, and Kripke and his team will continue to play in the universe with all the spin-offs they’ve made, including fifth generation and Vought rises.
