We have an update Taika ViditI have no title Star Wars As Hollywood insider/scoop Daniel Richman tells it, the movie has been shelved indefinitely.
I’m not surprised since Lucasfilm doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to following up Star Wars Film projects they put into development.
No title or story details were revealed, but Waititi did talk about the project multiple times, saying: “I’ve been developing [the Star Wars film] It’s been a few years, but I think with any movie, especially that one, I really want to get it right, so I don’t want to rush it. It will bubble on the side.
He added, “I want to capture the joy and entertainment of earlier works like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi , so I’m working on that. It’s going to happen.”
The director also came out and said, “This is going to be a… dramatic pause… Taika Waititi movie. It’s going to piss people off.”
Waititi explained that he wanted to create something new with the series and expand the universe beyond all the familiar characters and locations.
He said he’s still trying to come up with the idea for the film and is “still putting everything aside.” He also explained that he hasn’t quite figured it out yet.
The filmmaker also talked about what he hopes to bring to the series, saying: “Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand.
“I don’t think there’s any point in me making a movie in the Star Wars universe where everybody’s like, ‘Oh cool, that’s the blueprint for the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.'”
“It’s all standalone, which is great, although I wanted to take some new things, create some new characters, and expand the world, which otherwise feels like a very small story.”
There’s a chance the movie will be pulled and put back into development, but as of now, it doesn’t look like it’s going to go anywhere.
