Sam Fender was effectively forced to remain silent for the rest of the year.
The British musician has spent much of 2024 preparing for another big year in 2025, releasing his highly anticipated third album, people watchingEstimated arrival on February 21st. .
However, with only two shows remaining on the tour, Fender announced that he was canceling the remaining shows due to health issues that required him to take a vocal break.
“Glasgow and Newcastle, as most of you know I’ve had the flu for a few days now,” Fender shared social media Tuesday (December 17). “No matter how damaged my voice is, last night I did everything I could to get it back to normal to give the best performance possible. Today, I had an ENT speculum/camera inserted into my throat, Unfortunately my right vocal cord is bleeding and I’m heartbroken This has been the best tour yet and all I want to do is get up and sing for everyone again tonight.
“Two otolaryngologists told me that if I perform tonight, I may suffer lasting damage to my voice, and they recommended that I take vocal rest and not use my voice for extended periods of time until it heals,” he added. “I’m following the rules on this tour and living like a monk. It’s so unfortunate. I’m very, very sorry for everyone on the road tonight. We’re working hard to find a way to reschedule everyone, and we’ll be here soon. More news to come.
While it remains to be seen when Fender’s rescheduled dates will take place at this time, he plans to resume touring in March and plans to tour a number of European countries following the release of his upcoming album.
Fender’s 2019 debut album hypersonic missilepeaked at No. 12 on the Heatseekers Albums Chart and topped the UK Albums Chart, as did its follow-up 2021 sales The seventeen-year-old fell. The latter’s record has also been shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize, along with those by Harry Styles, Little Simz and others.
