HBO renews Dune: Prophecy for second season
The news was announced during a virtual press conference on Thursday afternoon, just days before the Season 1 finale airs on Sunday, December 22.
The “Dune” prequel series is set more than 10,000 years after the events of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” film and tells the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a race of powerful witches. A secret organization that influences the politics of Arrakis behind the scenes.
Inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the show follows Valia Harkonnen, the leader of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. The story of Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams).
Both are ancestors of the evil Harkonnen family long ago, who betrayed Paul Atreides and his father in the Dune movies. Mark Strong stars as Emperor Javi Corcorino and Sarah Sophie Busnina plays his daughter Princess Ines. The cast also includes Travis Fimmel, Jodie May, Josh Huston, Chloé Leah, Jade Anuka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Sharlo Mbrun-Franklin, Camilla Biput, Jihae, Tabu, Charisla Chandran, Jessica Baden, Emma Canning and Ha Ye-Lin.
Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer. Diane Adham-John is a co-developer of the series and serves as an executive producer. Anna Foerster served as executive producer and director on several episodes, including the first. Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns and Jon Spaihts serve as executive producers along with Brian Herbert People, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serve as executive producers for The Frank Herbert Estate. Kevin J. Anderson serves as co-producer. The series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television.
