Robbie Williams’ “Forbidden Road” was removed from the 2025 Oscars shortlist for Best Original Song because it contained material from an existing song that was not written for the film in which it appeared , better person (Paramount Pictures). The Music Chapter Executive Committee meets and reviews materials. It was determined that the achievement did not meet the eligibility criteria for the original song category of the 97th Awards Rules: an original song consists of lyrics and music, both of which are original and created specifically for the film. As a result, the song was deemed ineligible for the 97th Academy Awards and will be removed from the Oscar shortlist in the Original Song category.
This decision respects our rules and protects the special nature of the Original Song and Score category.
