In an interview with CB, Gunn explained that his reimagining of Lex was influenced by the Silver Age of DC Comics, describing Superman’s greatest enemy as “kind of like a wizard.”
“Lex is really a wizard in a way,” Gunn explained. “He’s a scientist, but he’s so good at science that I think of him as a wizard.
It’s more confirmation that this Superman movie won’t really be particularly concerned with the authenticity of its technology and will instead focus on the fun of the adventure, which is great!
Hoult also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter about working with Gunn on the film, saying Gunn “wrote such a wonderful script” and “had such a deep understanding of storytelling and filmmaking. I just loved it.” Watch his movies and I trust him completely.
As for how Lex Luthor came together, Hoult explained: “We went back and forth about certain scenes in the movie and the energy behind Lex, and when you meet him and Where did he go?
“So it was really fun to create with him because he’s a director who pushes me in exciting ways. I leave the set every day looking forward to going back, so I really enjoy the process with James.
“I thought, ‘Oh, this character in his imagination is really exciting, and hopefully I can bring the energy he wants to what he puts on paper.'”
Hoult also confirmed that his portrayal of Lex Luthor will be “impressive and dangerous,” saying, “That’s the thing about the character. Whenever you play a villain, I think you want to Make people feel like they are dangerous.
superman will follow “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas.”
