Lady A’s Hillary Scott and her 11-year-old daughter Eisele Kaye talk about the Christmas song they wrote, “Hard to Wait for Christmas,” their favorite family Christmas traditions, the most memorable Christmas gift Hillary received as a child, favorite of Christmas cookies and more!
Eisele Kaye
Can we sing a little “Hard to Wait for Christmas” for Billboard?
Hillary Scott
Do you want to do it?
Eisele Kaye
certainly.
Hillary Scott
Do we need dad’s help?
Eisele Kaye
Yeah, what was your favorite part about writing A Hard to Wait for Christmas together?
Hillary Scott
I think my favorite part of writing this song with you was talking about all the “hard to wait for Christmas” stuff, and then also getting to talk about the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus, the birth of Jesus.
Eisele Kaye
What’s the difference between recording with me and recording with your bandmates?
Hillary Scott
Well, it’s really interesting because it’s my first experience with you. So it feels new again, which is really exciting. I got to stand by and be a proud mom and watch you feel so comfortable in that environment and sing so beautifully. So it’s definitely different because, I mean, I’m proud [Lady A bandmates] charles [Kelley] and dave [Haywood] But, really proud of you because you are my girl.
Eisele Kaye
What was your favorite moment working on this song with me?
Hillary Scott
My favorite moment working on this song with you, I think, was in the studio. Do you remember what happened?
Eisele Kaye
Oh yes.
Hillary Scott
At the beginning,
Eisele Kaye
Yes, the lights are out.
Hillary Scott
There’s a power outage.
Eisele Kaye
Power outage
Hillary Scott
to the entire studio. And then what happened when we went to take pictures?
Eisele Kaye
The lights went out.
Hillary Scott
There’s a power outage. We just wanted those two things to happen, you know? I guess we’ll look at this as a lucky charm and if the power goes out, good things will happen to us.
