We haven’t really heard much yet superman Star David Collenswaite since the director James Gunnmovie is in development. However, in a recent interview with Collider, the actor talked about playing Superman and Clark Kent and how he prepared for these roles.
The actor reflected on how he came to play not only Superman, but also the equally important character of Clark Kent, and while he wasn’t well-versed in the comics in the film, he delved into them to help him figure out what he wanted for the film The version of the hero comes to life.
Collenswaite explains: “James specifically suggested All-Star Superman read for Clark because Clark faced interesting challenges. There was a silent version available to watch, which was fun.”
“I haven’t read so many Superman comics since there were various variations of Clarks in the comics. I know the ones that appeared on TV and in the movies, but it was nice to have a silent one and get impressions from it.
“So, I took a lot from that, especially for Clark. I also stole some things from my brother-in-law, who was 6-foot-8, 270 pounds, had the deepest voice, always got in my way, and always tried his best. Don’t get in my way.
Coronthwaite went on to talk about how he found his role while acting alongside Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Holt.
He explained: “Mostly, I drew inspiration from other actors and James. I felt like I wanted to live in the world we live in now, so when I started working with Rachel, it was clear who was Clark, who is Superman.
“Especially with Superman, heroes are only as interesting or cool as the enemies they face, so standing face to face with Nick for the first time made it clear to me who I was. That’s when I started to know who I was. Who, because I see clearly who they are.
Gunn has confirmed that Superman and Lex Luthor haven’t crossed paths at the beginning of the film, but Coronthwaite’s comments tease that this will happen over the course of the film’s events as the story unfolds And changes occur.
Gunn has created an interesting world for Superman here that’s unlike anything we’ve seen in movies before, and his version of these characters is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
“Lex is really a wizard in a way,” Gunn said of Lex. “He’s a scientist, but he’s so good at science that I think of him as a wizard.
Hoult said of the character: “I think what excites me most about Lex is being in James Gunn’s universe. Like you said, his emotions are so raw and powerful, but the world and the scope of what he creates But it’s huge.
“I think Lex, I mean, obviously he’s smart and he’s ruthless, and he has to surpass Superman on some levels because he can’t match Superman in other ways.
“But, hopefully from my perspective, there’s also something about the character that even though you may not agree with his process, there’s an element where you can kind of understand where he’s coming from and why he’s pushing the ideologies he’s pushing. Maybe it’s better for humans.
Superman will follow “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas.”
“He was the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world where kindness is considered obsolete.”
“It’s set in a very different world than ours and very far removed from the DCEU. The heroes have been around for many years and we’ll see how it affects the history of that world and shapes the DCU.”
