The Editors Guild has received an anonymous donation of $200,000 to its hardship fund, which it expects will significantly enhance its ability to support members in need.
Last September, in response to the recent industry downturn, the board approved the Local 700 Hardship Relief Fund and allocated $130,000 from the Guild’s treasury to support its launch. Since its inception, the Fund has provided critical assistance to nearly 100 members facing unexpected financial challenges. The latest donation is expected to sustain and potentially expand these support efforts.
In addition, Local 700 board member Shiran Miller, who won $40,000 in last year’s Union Plus “Unions Power America” contest, donated her winnings to the Local 700 Hardship Fund. Her donation demonstrates her commitment to supporting industry professionals.
“The union is about unity, and our members have proven time and time again that they have each other’s backs,” said Alan Heim, ACE, president of the Society of Editors. “This latest donation is testament to the enduring value of unionism, in good times and bad.”
The Entertainment Community Fund, which administers the Association’s funds, is a charitable entity dedicated to supporting performers and behind-the-scenes workers throughout the entertainment industry. ECF assists more than 17,000 people each year through a variety of programs, including social services, emergency financial assistance, health care and insurance counseling, affordable housing, and employment and training services. His influence spans film, theatre, television, music, opera, radio and dance.
