we’ve known for years Mike Flanagan He had always wanted to make a Mudface movie for DC Studios, and a few months later he said he pitched his idea to DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safranthe film received official recognition!
This will come as a surprise to many DC fans, as Clayface is a very cool and interesting character who will be Biocommando.
During a recent DC press conference, Gunn was asked if he greenlighted Flanagan’s Mudface movie, and he responded:
“As I’ve always said, it’s all about, ‘I want to make sure our script works perfectly.'” That goes beyond anything else.
“So when Mike Flanagan came in and he said, ‘I had this idea for Clayface…’ I didn’t think, ‘We’re going to do something with Clayface. . But then he told me he had this idea and it was amazing.
“I said, ‘Okay, let’s give it a try. Let’s write it! So he wrote it and came in with this amazing script. He was so enthusiastic about it, and I thought, ‘This is definitely a fit.’ ”
“Quality comes first. Then we have to figure out, ‘How does it fit in with everything else?’
Flanagan only wrote the screenplay for the film, and unfortunately, he won’t be directing it as he will be working on his The Exorcist Movie. As a result, DC Studios is now looking for a director.
Flanagan has previously stated that he is “very passionate about making a standalone Mudface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy.”
In a separate interview, Flanagan talked about his initial pitch meeting with the studio about Clayface being a horror movie, and it wasn’t the only DC movie they talked about. He said:
“I went to Warner Bros. and had a meeting about DC. It was an all-hands meeting. [producer] Jon Berg talks if there’s anything in the DC Universe for me… I really want to[ed] Make clay faces.
“I went in and said, ‘You know, if you want to do some DC horror movies, I have a great idea for Clayface. I’d love to do that movie.
“If not, I want to talk about Scarecrow, Justice League Dark, and Constantine. I threw everything out there and said, ‘As a kid, I used to dress up as Superman because that was my hero – Christopher Reeve’s Superman is my hero. “The meeting went nowhere. [Berg] Not really catching any of that stuff.
I love the way Gunn approaches all of these DC projects and won’t greenlight them until the scripts are in perfect shooting conditions. It’s an inspiring approach to filmmaking, and I hope it works out in their favor and that DC Studios can put out one great movie after another.
