“I have spent the past few years in the Southern California desert, where the film was shot,” Molder explained in a statement. “The cold wilderness at the top of the mountain, the vast vistas below, the faraway places from everyday life. “Going crazy” can mean many different things. The joy of reckless abandonment, the uncertainty of the future of the world, the silence of loneliness.

“On the surface, this is a collection of simple guitar pop songs. I’m refining my main sound and style through simplicity, simplicity and clarity,” Molder continued. “Behind the scenes, there are many disparate themes. Control and chaos, alertness and helplessness, uncertainty [sic] and unconditional love.

Somewhat unusually, Molde also shared a follow-up statement via social media in which he simplified the standard terminology used in media releases.

“In the press release, I talked about refining my core sound,” he explains. “In the words of Bob English: Give the people what they want. I’ve spent the better part of the past three years touring around the world, test-driving some of these new songs, and meeting with you after solo shows Talk to a lot of people. I know exactly what you like in my work.

“It’s got loud guitars, catchy melodies, and a team you know and love (Jon, Jason, Beau). It’s a reflection of my current thoughts on life, love, and how we spend our days in this world An in-depth look at this is a Bob Mold album.

The record’s release will also be accompanied by a 26-date U.S. tour in April and May, which will see Mold join his long-time bandmates Jon Wurster and Jason Narducy.
