Homes seen in Julia Michaels and Maren Morris’ new song and music video “Scissors” were destroyed in the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles.
Michaels noted in an Instagram post on Friday (January 10) that the two made the video in Altadena, the day of the release of her latest single with Morris. She shared a message on YouTube saying they learned the owners, a couple with two young children, had since lost the house. “The house where we filmed Scissor burned down due to the wildfires in Los Angeles,” Michaels wrote in a comment on YouTube, which he posted for viewers to see. “I feel so sad for the family who lent us their home to make this video. She shared a link to a GoFundMe started by a friend of the family, who is facing the loss of their home. As of Saturday (January 11), the fund’s donation goal was close to being achieved.
Morris wrote on Instagram Stories, “The house where we just filmed Scissors was tragically lost in the fire. It was a lovely family… I was in their kid’s bathroom getting ready. And now this. After floods, hurricanes , tornadoes, fires, ugh. My heart breaks for every child that can’t get home and the animals that are displaced. My heart breaks for Mother Earth.

The music video for “Scissors” is a cheeky one that matches the light-hearted tone of the pop song, with the ladies singing about cutting off their lovers’ lives. Michaels and Morris coyly employ visual references to actual scissors (and scissor hands) in the lyrics against the man in bed… and end the clip with a quick cutting sound.
