St. Denis Medical’s big breakout debut on NBC in the fall, and the network had some exciting news on Tuesday morning:
The second season of “Saint Denis Medical” is about to be launched.
The mockumentary is NBC’s first script renewal for the 2025-26 television season. Do whatever you want.
The freshman drama averaged less than 4 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the pilot, proving that the network still has life.
NBC teased that the show has had a staggering 21.4 million viewers so far, but it doesn’t mean much if the network doesn’t break it down.
Live + 7’s numbers are enough to keep it on the air for several years.
St. Denis Medical a hit
St. Denis Medical Center, an underfunded and understaffed hospital in Oregon, focuses on its employees and doing the best they can with the resources they have.
It bears a striking resemblance to previously aired TV hit shows Parks and Recreation and Abbott Elementary.
The humor comes from the characters getting put into comical situations that force them to think quickly and make decisions that benefit their patients and the hospital’s reputation.
The cast stars Wendi McLendon-Covey (“The Goldbergs”) as Joyce.
Starring David Alan Grier (“In Living Color”) as Ron, Allison Tolman (“Fargo”) as Alex, and Josh Lawson (“House of Lies”) as Bruce , Kahyun Kim (American Gods) as Selina, Mekhi Lieber (Jury Duty) as Bruce Matt and Kaliko Kauahi (Superstore) as Val.
The series is currently aired every Tuesday at 8:07, and the number of views is equivalent to the second season of “Night Court” which aired at the same time last season.
The future of Happy Place and Night Court should be revealed soon
Now that NBC has aired the second season of “Saint Denis Med”, the renewal of “Happy’s Place” starring Reba McEntire is expected to begin soon.
The Friday comedy averaged 4.7 million viewers and a 0.40 rating including DVR for the week.
NBC comedies “Nightcourt” and “Lopez vs. Lopez” face a more fraught future.
Sales of “Night Court” have been declining since its premiere, and have plummeted this season, leading to concerns that the reboot won’t last long.
Lopez vs. Lopez could be re-signed, but Night Club could be on the outs in this fight.
NBC will make decisions on the rest of its lineup soon, so stay tuned for more information. Check out our NBC Cheat Sheet for a complete list of renewed and canceled shows.
