Incredibly, this is Sam Mendes’ first official screenwriting credit. He was inspired by stories told to him as a child by his grandfather who fought in World War I.

We all have our own ways of getting inspiration for writing, and in this script Johnson immersed himself in classic detective films such as Death on the Nile, Gosford Park and murder death.

Best Original Screenplay #3: marriage story Author: Noah Baumbach.
This script is a great example of creating something positive out of personal pain. We don’t know if Baumbach thought writing the script was cathartic, but it’s based on his own 2013 divorce from actress Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Additionally, Scarlett Johansson and Laura Dern both went through divorce, and Adam Driver grew up in a broken home. All of this may have something to do with the wonderful performance Baumbach captured on screen.
Best Original Screenplay #4: once upon a time in hollywood Quentin Tarantino.
Ideas for a movie can come from anywhere, and Tarantino came up with the idea back in 2009, when he was working with an actor who had been using the same stuntman for 20 years. Even so, he originally conceived the story as a novel and spent five years writing it before realizing it would be better suited to a film.
Unlike Tarantino, this time he started from the climax and worked backwards, having already established the protagonists Cliff Booth and Rick Dalton.
