Since its release in 2015, Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” has become a musical representation of hope for anyone overcoming obstacles or battling tragedy.
As wildfires in Los Angeles continue to devastate the city, Platon takes the stage at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Monday (January 13) during the playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings performed her hits before the game. “It was a very emotional night. It was much bigger than me and this song,” she said advertising billboard It’s a tribute to the fire victims and the first responders who risked their lives to save the city.
Thankfully, Platten and her family are safe and were able to return home after a precautionary evacuation. “My heart is broken,” she said. “We know friends who have lost their houses, friends whose schools burned down. It’s horrible, it’s just a horrible experience.
During her performance of “Fight Song,” Platon changed a line from the song’s first verse—”I may only have one match/But I can make a blast”—to something more appropriate given the circumstances , a more appropriate lyric: “We may have been knocked down/But I know we’ll keep going.”
“I feel so grateful for the whole evening,” she said. “We can do a lot with tragedy. We can mourn together, we can cry together – but also be strong together. What I felt on stage was, ‘May this song touch people like medicine, may this song Able to heal. “I definitely felt the reverberation and the echo in the stadium, that desire for hope in the darkness. Sometimes, music can do things that words can’t.
Platon hopes to continue spreading her message as she embarks on her “Set Me Free” tour, which will begin in Denver, Colorado on March 17 and stop in multiple cities, including Los Angeles, before ending in May Ending in Orlando, FL on the 9th. “It’s a joy that when you go through something bad, you see the pain, you see the tragedy, you choose to stay strong and resilient. We all sing and dance, but we also cry and feel what we feel. Hope The whole tour makes people feel everything.
