I hope you’ll forgive me for jumping into the game so late, but it’s awesome that I’m finally joining the ranks of the Fire Nation. The show may be in the middle of its third season, but I’m playing catch-up.
After just five episodes, it’s clear why the show is so popular with fans. The main thing about a good series is that it hooks you immediately, and it only took me five minutes to be hooked.
The first thing to say is that Fire Nation is a multi-layered show that explores nearly every path a program can take.
It also doesn’t hurt that there are some very handsome men in this series.
I’m pretty sure it’s mandatory to have at least one hot guy on a show about firefighters, but I’ll double check to make sure.
Fire Nation dramas burn almost as fast and hot as the flames they extinguish
First off, I’ll try not to be too biased, as I’ve been a long-time admirer of Max Theriot, right up to Von Diesel and Britney Snow’s The Pacifier.
So imagine my surprise when Bode opened his mouth, his voice noticeably deeper than Theriot’s previous one.
I won’t criticize it either because it definitely suits the character. If anything, it’s a smart choice for the actor. Bode has literally thrown himself into the fire when it comes to his character, and I don’t mean his day job.
There’s family drama, and then there’s the chaotic situation. They say time heals all wounds, but sometimes a wound can become infected if left untreated. Just ask Freddy in Fire Nation Season 1 Episode 5.
While Vince and Bird seemed to be on the road to reconciliation, the tension between father and son was palpable. It feels like something drastic will eventually happen to bring the two back together.
All I knew was that it was best not to make Mom any more sick. The salon is an overall atmosphere.
Five episodes into Fire Nation already seem to be setting up the Big Bad
I don’t know about you, but if you’re anything like this TV fanatic, you’ll love a strong female character who knows her stuff, doesn’t get grief from anyone, and still has a big heart at the end of the day heart.
Sharon, like many of the characters on the CBS series, embodies many of the traits found in almost every mother. The relatability of the show’s characters is one of Fire Nation‘s greatest strengths.
It goes without saying that while the show focuses on fire, its central theme is fanning the flames so that a family burns brighter.
Still, the Leon family seems exhausted rather than glorious.
Now, I’m only five episodes in and I can already tell this Uncle Luke character is going to be a pain in the ass. In fact, my opinion mostly comes from the actor who plays him.
I’m talking about none other than Michael Trucco. The man is a fantastic actor, but I’ve only ever seen him play one villain, an evil warlock in 1999’s Charmed .
So, you know why as soon as this character came on, I was like, “Oh, he’s gotta be a bad guy.”
Then again, I’ve only watched five episodes, so I may be eating my words by the time Fire Nation Season 1 is over.
But probably not, since one of Trucco’s latest roles was as the sleazy Rufus Griswold in The Fall of the House of Usher. Like Michael Emerson, this man knew that his talents were suited to evil.
Max Theriot delivers a hit show in more ways than one
However, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what is happening. The show doesn’t even try to be subtle about Garbus and Bode’s eventual feelings for each other.
Plus, how long will the chaos between Jack and Bode continue?
I ask because in the real world, when a friendship like theirs breaks down, it’s almost impossible to reconcile without someone swallowing their pride.
I suspect what happened with Garbus and Bode isn’t going to improve the situation either.
Speaking of the Cal Fire recruit, I love how hard she works to get Manny to see her as his own woman. It perfectly reflects Bode and Vince’s journey.
I may be late to the party, but I’m still enjoying the festivities because Fire Nation is the kind of show that leaves you eager to know what’s going to happen next.
That said, I don’t like that it took five episodes to get a shirtless Bode. This is a show about firefighters, right? Let’s be honest, Max Theriot did an amazing job not only acting in Fire Nation, but also producing it.
Suffice it to say, I’m hooked and can’t wait to finish Fire Nation Seasons 1 and 2 and look forward to returning for Season 3.
Without giving anything away, can you give a hint of what’s to come?
Which characters should I focus on?
