‘Family’ canceled by Paramount+ after two seasons; revival to be picked up by CBS Studios
Frazier’s return came with a major setback. Paramount+ has decided not to renew the comedy starring Kelsey Grammer for a third season. Producing CBS Studios remains committed to the series and plans to sell it to other pipelines.
Those are not expected to include CBS, the most logical home for multi-camera sitcoms that originated in broadcast, CBS Studios. The network just committed to a Neighborhood spinoff and currently doesn’t have shelf space available, but it does have a set of development boards. Possibilities include Prime Video and Hulu, both of which carry Frasier’s library of originals. Seasons 1 and 2 of the revival, as well as the original series, will continue to stream on Paramount+.
Family is an independent multi-camera situation comedy and one of only two original comedy series on the platform, the other being the single-camera international co-production Colin From Accounts, which was Made in a different mode and looks good to continue making.
The new ‘Frasier’ tells the story of Frasier Crane – Grammer’s character originated on NBC’s ‘Cheers’ before starring in the network’s spin-off ‘Frasier’ (Frasier).
The series also stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Fraser’s son Freddy. Nicholas Lyndhurst plays Alan, Fraser’s old college friend who later becomes a university professor; Toks Olagundoye plays Olivier Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor; Anders Kiss plays Fraser’s nephew David.
