CBS did something incredible when it canceled Blue Blood after 14 seasons.
Reality begins to introduce when we debate why the network makes such a controversial decision:
Blue Blood is an expensive series because it aired in the air for so long.
Actors have to cut the show’s salary in the last few years. Otherwise, many of them may not be required.
CBS is not afraid to fire countless actors from a beloved series.
Eleven of the 13 actors from Bob Hearts Abishola were not asked to return to the fifth and final season, making the comedy often unthinkable.
CBS announced NCIS: Sydney will join Friday’s roster.
Since Friday is good for many CBS series, there is a case where the latest NCIS entries perform well.
However, as the broadcast network is known to be constantly changing, we won’t get too many guides before seeing some rating dates.
NCIS: Sydney Season 2 Episode 1 premiered earlier this month that night, attracting 4.3 million viewers with a demonstration of 0.26.
These numbers put it just behind the Blue Bloods Season 14 average (5.1 million viewers, demo 0.29).
NCIS: Sydney is more cost-effective than blue blood
The reality is that NCIS: Sydney is a much cheaper show because it was made for Paramount+ in Australia, so CBS is paying a fee to play the series.
Recently, broadcast networks have shifted to more cost-effective programs to keep lights while TV ratings are falling.
Fox murdered a great season in a small town that had a comparable amount of cost to the drama of other scripts.
The CW has been doing this for years and has had greater success with Sullivan’s Crossing and Wild Cards, so this is the trend we expect to continue, as this is probably the only way scripts survive on radio and television.
NCIS: Sydney is like the Black Sheep franchise in NCIS, because it is not made for CBS. Many moved to Friday with lower expectations, which suggests the network is not confident about it.
Since production prices are cheap, it is feasible if the ratings are fixed financially.
But, as the premiere is washed away with numbers comparable to many other more expensive CBS dramas, we can see more international entries in the network’s most outstanding franchise.
To drive home, NCIS: Sydney’s Season 2 premiere is held, with an average audience of more viewers at present.
The radio and television industry is changing
The demo statistics are the same between the two shows, which makes CBS think about whether it’s time to return to the show it’s produced.
Unfortunately, the ever-changing market has already invested a hit show in the crosshairs where executives desperately try to keep profit margins.
When you think CBS has cut many of its beloved performances, it’s a miracle that Blue Bloods enters 14 seasons.
Initially, the reason why Blue Blood was cancelled was confusing, as the entire actor wanted to continue with more episodes.
Plus, CBS reversed the decision to cancel SWAT, so the same could have happened to Blue Blood.
From the bigger case, the price tag kills Blue Blood, which could be the shape of a CBS if the cheaper show is achieving comparable results.
The only realistic way to get Blue Blood back is a spin-off or sequel series that drastically cuts the cast and has a more meaningful budget.
It’s not a bad idea to offer it exclusively as the most important + and to CBS’ second window right or something like that in the summer.
CBS hopes for newer performances in established franchise
CBS seems to prefer new series over traditional fares because new shows set in established franchise are cheaper.
Elsbeth is the latest in the Good Wife series, and the first marriage of Georgie and Mandy has brought young Sheldon fans to much lower prices Enter.
It’s very likely that it boils down to NCIS: Origins vs. NCIS: Sydney has a place in the 2025-26 TV season, and my bet makes the latter to get the pickup.
The network also prepares a third FBI spin-off, meaning the FBI: International or FBI: Most want to get a pink slide soon.
In both cases, the FBI: European international films are cheap, so Dylan McDermott’s spin-off will inevitably become a cut.
For several years, there has been no explanation for what the TV industry would look like, as all signs indicate a streaming priority strategy.
But for now, NCIS Sydney’s performance highlights why Blue Blood has lost a place in the radio waves.
