What a chaotic case!
It’s unclear who is even more wrong with law and order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15, but we did our best to solve this problem.
Our TV enthusiasts Laura Nowak, Jasmine Blu and Jack Ori debate whether Stacey’s defense is justified, whether Carisi has a little point on the double standard, and what justice looks like.
Stacey’s defense is that she thinks Ryan is an adult because he drinks in a bar and looks like an old man. Is this reasonable, or should she do more to confirm his age?
Laura: How many people ask someone’s age in the real world? I understand it’s the law, but if he drinks in the bar, I understand why she thinks he’s legal.
Jasmine: I’m always troubled by these specific situations. But I also know that I am sensitive to older women who have suspicious relationships with young men.
Ryan doesn’t look much older than she is around 18 and knows that the kids use fake IDs, which is a hotel bar, not a specific club, has me warned about this situation and hopefully there is some double check.
Still, Stacey justified assuming that he drank alcohol in his legal institution.
Such a situation involves many factors, which is what makes the whole case so confusing in the first place.
Jack: I think Ryan is sitting in the bar with a drink in his hand, which makes Stacey’s assumption justified. It is presumed that his ID card had been checked before he drank.
Have you done the experiment Carisi suggested in his closure? If Ryan was an older man and Stacey was a 16-year-old girl, would you make a difference with this?
Laura: That’s the only thing I agree with what he did on Law&Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15.
Society may be even more frustrated if the role is reversed. Is it fair? No, but the case is very chaotic.
Jasmine: Because I witnessed the last-hand gender role, because it happened to loved ones, and I know that it was a bad situation involving male victims of legal rape, I didn’t need to really envision it or switch characters to understand or feel strongly.
Sadly, there is indeed a double standard before considering this, and some people can’t grasp it.
As long as masculinity is related to the “conquering” women even being longed for by them (although this is also common in queer dynamics), it will be a complex problem that society cannot completely tangle around its head, including male victims who have not given space to actually deal with their victims.
I think I’m going to tangent now, so I pack it up.
Jack: I agree with you wholeheartedly, Jasmine.
At the same time, though, I’m not sure that in this case, this makes a difference for me.
If Ryan was the old party in the case, all moving parts of this chaos remained the same.
Are you surprised that the jury was in a deadlock at the end of Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15? Why or why not?
Laura: Absolutely not! This is one of the most chaotic cases in SVU’s history.
If there is faith, I will be surprised.
Jasmine: not at all! There are so many moving pieces.
This case is nothing simple, so it would be shocking if it wasn’t a deadlock.
Jack: agree. As I said in Law & Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15 Review, this situation cannot end considering who did what confusion.
Stories about Law and Order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15 has a lot of activity parts. Ryan’s stepmother was the one who filed the complaint, not him. Stacey believes that Ryan is 18 years old and Ryan asks her to drink drug vodka. What would justice look like in this case?
Laura: As mentioned earlier, this is one of the most chaotic cases.
I think Ryan knows what he is doing and is equally guilty, but Stacey is indicted because he is a minor.
I think crime is the best sentence. I hope Carisi can plan. I remember Barba used the trick before.
Jasmine: You know, I still don’t have a definite answer. I think that’s part of the reason why the case is so interesting.
I did think of everything that happened, and Ryan allowed her to drink some drugs without warning her that it was the most obvious and clearest question of all. This is something that needs punishment because it is so dangerous if he continues to take such action in the future.
I didn’t find these actions ambiguous.
Jack: It’s really hard to figure out what the result is here. I think the trial is the closest we will be doing justice in law and order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15.
Both of them were wrong, and it was difficult to figure out what was malicious and what was a serious mistake.
Should Benson mention any time in this case her history of sleeping with a 21-year-old child at the age of 16?
Laura: Honestly, I forgot this.
Jasmine: If the context is correct, she may have it. But that’s not the forefront of my mind.
Jack: I thought of this in the scene where Benson talks to Bruno. I’m debating whether she would connect with his experience by sharing her experience.
Nothing discussed above.
Laura: I usually like Carisi, but he really likes me. I hope he finally listened to LIV and planned the trial of this error.
Jasmine: Well, Bruno. I wanted to reach out to hug him on the screen when the case clearly summoned the trauma of his buried past.
I thank him for sharing it, and the moment in episode 15 of Law & Order: SVU Season 26, because it shows how men handle sexual trauma differently.
I wonder if this is something he is moving forward, but SVU is not the biggest continuity.
Jack: I’m so grateful for this episode being so patient. As much as I like Benson, there are so many episodes lately with superhero Benson supporting the survivors of the week, but nothing else, so it’s a refreshing change.
What is your favorite quote for scenes, stories or law and order: SVU Season 26 Episode 15?
Laura: I thank Stacey’s husband for standing by her side anyway.
Jasmine: I do like how complicated this situation is and feels less preaching or exploitative.
Jack: I also like how complicated this situation is. Also, as we discussed above, Bruno’s scene is great.
