It was announced on Sunday (September 8) that BLACKPINK member Jennie has signed with Columbia Records as a solo artist in partnership with her record label and entertainment company ODDATELIER. The singer plans to release a new solo single in October.
In December last year, it was reported that all BLACKPINK members had broken up with the label YG Entertainment due to their solo works, and at the same time extended their group activity contracts with the label.
Last June, Jennie released “One of the Girls” on HBO alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp Idol. The track has since been played over 1 billion times on Spotify alone and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA; it also peaked at No. 18 advertising billboardpopular music playlist. In October, she released “You & Me,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl chart. US charts, making her the second BLACKPINK member to rank No. 1 in the survey after Rosé’s “On the Ground.”
Earlier this year, Jennie released two collaborative singles: “SPOT!” with ZICO and “SLOW MOTION” with Matt Champion. Her first solo single “SOLO” was released in 2018 and went to the top of the charts advertising billboardof world digital song sales charts.
Jennie debuted in 2016 as one quarter of the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, which in 2023 became the first Korean artist to headline the Coachella music festival. The band has a total of 9 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the highest of which is “Ice Cream”, a collaboration with Selena Gomez, which peaked at No. 13.
