ACE’s Lillian Benson will receive the Blazer Award for Black Public Media at a ceremony in New York next month.
Benson, perhaps best known for her Emmy nominated work for the PBS series “Trophy II”, will be interviewed on stage by NPR broadcaster Brittany Luse on the Pitchblack Forum & Awards in Harlem on May 1.
The Editors Association awarded Benson the Scholarship and Service Award in 2017 to recognize those who embody professional excellence, mentoring and commitment to the labor movement in post-production.
The “prize” that tells the story of the Civil Rights Movement remains a highlight of Benson’s career. “Since Priz’e’s eyes have been widely used in universities, universities and public schools, so more people have looked at my work on the series, rather than other things I edited,” she told Cinemontage in 2015.
Her other image editing honors include “Greenleaf”, “Maya Angelou: I Still Rise” and “In Trouble: The Journey of John Lewis.” She also worked at NBC’s “Chicago Medicine” for eight seasons.
Black Public Media is a nonprofit organization that helps support and fund black media stories.
