The Chicago One series is back in full force with Chicago P.D. Season 12!
We’re going to be facing some big changes, in the form of casting tweaks.
But for the most part, we can expect a lot of the same things as Voight leads the intelligence community on some of Chicago’s most harrowing major cases.
We’ve rounded up everything you need to know about Chicago PD Season 12, including the release date.

We’ll keep you posted as news continues to come in, so be sure to pay attention.
Will Chicago PD return for another season?
As we established, NBC has renewed Chicago P.D. (along with another Chicago P.D. series).
In March, NBC announced that the entire Dick Wolf series had been greenlit to continue telling its story.
At this point, “Chicago PD” will enter its twelfth season.
How does Chicago PD season 11 end?
Chicago PD season 11 started late due to two strikes, resulting in a shortened season.
Much of the season has focused on Voight and the others’ determination to track down a sadistic serial killer who kills people who are so close to each other that they can’t keep their eyes open.

It was a season-long mystery until Voight grew closer to one of his victims, Noah, causing him to once again become a permanent victim of the serial killer.
In the season finale, Mattson drugged and kidnapped Voight, leaving Haley and the others to hunt him down.
Haley tracks down Voight with the help of the unusual and polarizing new character Jo Petrovic, and the finale is heartwarming and even delivers in the form of Olinsky through Voight’s drugged-up state The impact of the past.
Haley and Voight cement their special father-daughter relationship during their life-or-death struggle with Mattson.
In the end, this led to Tracy Spiridakos’ exit from the show after seven seasons, as Haley sought a fresh start amid different avenues of law enforcement pending.
When does Chicago PD season 12 premiere?
Now that the network has officially released NBC’s fall lineup, we know when the show will return with new episodes.
We don’t have to wait long.

“Chicago PD” airs Wednesday, September 25 at 10/9c on NBC.
What is the plot of Chicago PD Season 12?
We can expect more of the same from the series.
Chicago PD has made a habit of producing many character-focused episodes each season.
In this case, we might see a return to the format, with each main character remaining at the center of two or three episodes.
The show also features long-running storylines that span the entire season, so we’ll likely see at least one case last for multiple episodes.
After Hailey Upton left, the intelligence unit was down one member and in need of a detective.
It wouldn’t be surprising if we see a replacement come in or make a cameo as someone who works with the team.
Many viewers are also insisting on having one or more of the existing squad members serve as detectives, so that might work.
It will also be interesting to see how some personal development will play out.
We’re curious to see if Voight will become closer or more distant from those around him after Noah’s death and Haley’s departure shortly after Halstead’s exit.

With Bozek getting engaged, we’d like to see some wedding plans or even a wedding at some point this season.
How many episodes are there in Chicago PD Season 12?
Luckily, we can kiss the disappointment of the ultra-short TV season goodbye.
We haven’t gotten any official confirmation yet, but we’ll likely get 22 episodes, as that’s been the standard number for recent seasons, regardless of other circumstances.
Who is the cast of Chicago PD Season 12?
The cast is intact and we can expect the rest of the big names to return.
- Jason Beghe as Hank Voight
- LaRoyce Hawkins as Kevin Atwater
- Marina Squerciati as Kim Burgess
- Patrick Flueger as Adam Ruzek
- Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Dante Torres
- Emmy Morton as Trudy Platt
Will Trish Spiridakos return to Chicago PD Season 12?
There is no word yet on whether Spiridakos will appear again in the upcoming season.
As far as we know, she’s signed on for the finale and has no plans to guest star in the next season.
Will Jesse Lee Sofer return to Chicago PD Season 12?
We also don’t know if Jesse Lee Sofer will appear in Chicago P.D. Season 12.

While he hasn’t reprized his role since leaving, he’s returned to direct behind the scenes for the past two seasons.
It wouldn’t be surprising if he tries to do it again next season.
However, he will appear in FBI: International after taking on a series regular role.
The CBS series shoots primarily in Europe; it’s probably unlikely that Sofer would choose to direct this season.
Is there a new cast member for Chicago PD Season 12?
Fortunately, yes!
In an exciting plot development, the show will reintroduce the patrol officer, which will hopefully give Trudy Platt more screen time this season.
Warrior Sister and New Amsterdam’s Toya Turner has joined the cast as Patrol Officer Kiana Cook.
This will complete Turner’s appearance on “Chicago 3,” as she also has guest roles on “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med.”
Keanna Cook is described as a woman who lives for the adrenaline her job brings, remaining calm, cool and collected in the face of chaos.
Oh, but that’s not all!
We’re especially excited to hear that Southland and Animal Kingdom’s Sean Hatosy will also be reprising his role in Chicago PD Season 12.
The critically acclaimed Hatosy will star as new Chief Charlie Reed.
Hatosy will make his acting debut in the premiere, and Reed is reportedly very close to Voight.
He’ll see a lot of himself in Voight and have similar views on how to do the job, which could mean some very interesting interactions between the two characters as well as him and the rest of the intelligence community.
This dynamic will continue throughout the season, so we can expect to see plenty of action from Hatosy, who also has recurring roles on Fox’s Rescue Hi-Surf and The Pitt.
