I’m currently attending the Blackmagic press conference at NAB 2018, waiting for all the official new announcements to be made. As expected, the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is about to be unveiled, and based on the product description and pricing, there’s a lot to be excited about.
An MFT cinema camera costs $1,295, has dual ISO (up to ISO 25,600) and records to CFast or SD cards, which sounds pretty amazing. The built-in 5-inch display tells us that the camera body will be larger than previous compact cameras, which shouldn’t be too surprising to anyone, especially considering that this camera also has a larger sensor. I’m wondering if it’s a similar sensor to the original BMCC, as the sensor size and dynamic range (13 stops) sound familiar.
