Thriller from prolific filmmaker Clint Eastwood Juror #2 The film will be released in select theaters on November 1 and will have its world premiere a few days later as the closing film of the 38th AFI Film Festival.
The 94-year-old director’s new film stars Nicholas Hoult as a family man who, while serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself in a serious moral dilemma that he can exploit. This dilemma comes to influence the verdict and possibly convict, or free, the wrong killer. Toni Collette, JK Simmons, Chris Messina, Gabriel Basso, Zoey Deutch, Cedric Yarbrough, Leslie Bieber and Kiefer Sa Theran also stars.
Some people speculate whether Juror #2 will be a part of this year’s awards show, and since it’s kicking off awards season and competing at AFI, that discussion will only grow, much like his fellow Oscar contenders american sniper and Richard Jewell.
However, in this case, the MPAA event was first and foremost a celebration of Eastwood’s long and iconic career, and it’s unclear whether the film will be up for awards, according to sources.
“There was only one Clint Eastwood, and AFI is proud to present the world premiere of this new chapter in his all-time classic,” said AFI President and CEO Bob Gazzale. “We are honored to once again bring the community – artists and audiences – together to celebrate this American icon.”
Typically, Warner Bros. plays Eastwood’s films nationwide. As of now, there are no plans other than a limited run.
In 1996, Eastwood received the 24th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2009, he received an AFI Honorary Degree for his outstanding contributions to the art of moving images.
