During his many years of career, the actor director Ruben Cannon Throwed 100 films and TV productions, including projects that won Oscars and Emmys. In a recent NPR interview, Cannon talked about the most important lessons he learned about the actors and how to get him to take the breakthrough TV role of Bruce Willis – risking his own job!
Cannon shares his most important advice on actors ever: “Ralph Winters is the director of Universal TV. Ralph Winters […] This means that if you want the actor to play the number one, he should be able to do the lead somewhere where everyone starts. You know, Denzel [Washington] He was playing a small role before he became a star. Everyone starts – so the job of actors is to determine your cast – you know the future. So, they know, they give their first job to that actor. A few years ago, I hired John Travolta For roles on TV shows Emergency! He has two lines – an actor fell and sprained ankle […] Again, he is far beyond the role required to play. ”
In that example, Cannon points out the importance of having an actor in the role, rather than an untrained person, noting: “He is not only a background ball player. Currently, he is an actor.”
Another example that Cannon shared is Bruce WillisCannon hires for breakthrough TV series moonlight. Cannon revealed that he was actually fired for continuing to push Willis as the lead role. He recalls: “I heard the character read a lot. But suddenly, Bruce comes in and gives it a whole new spin because he is not the network’s definition of a leader. In fact, they-I was fired Because I kept bringing him back to the studio. They said, Reuben, obviously you don’t know what a leader is.”
