Confession: The best action RPG so far is Elden Ring, but, this summer, I want to really delve into something that creates my own pocket universe and isn’t just another Elden Ring. A clone of Souls or The Witcher. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been called “the game of the year” by many, and I knew that if there was ever a game worth trying, it was this one. I gave it a try, and over 150 hours later, I can’t wait to pour my love for the game into this article. So if you’ve never tried Dragon’s Dogma 2, I hope I can convince you to give it a try. If you have, I hope you enjoyed my sharing of why this game is second only to Elden Ring for me.
1. Like I said, it’s not trying to be another Elden Ring. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has managed to create its own universe, with a very unique internal logic and design that makes it unique. Many times I rule out playing an action RPG for just two hours because it feels like I’m playing something I’ve already experienced. But this feeling never appeared in “Dragon’s Dogma 2”.
2. I know I’m not in the minority – many people like me enjoy open world games because they get the chance to get lost in exploration or side quests. The level of exploration in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is unlike anything I’ve experienced in a long time. It’s tempting to pick a direction and keep wandering, and it almost always pays off. You’ll find hidden treasures, rare materials, or at least some of the 240 Explorer Tokens scattered around the world. So if the thrill of discovery keeps you playing these types of games, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is definitely for you. Buy Dragons Dogma 2 on PS5 at the cheapest price.
3. One thing that might put some people off: there’s almost no way to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Yes, there are times when you can rely on rare crossing stones and gate crystals, but overall, journey is not something to be taken lightly in this game. You’ll feel frustrated at times, but you’ll soon realize that this adds to the tension that awaits you.
4. I like this plot. The central storyline revolves around the eternal cycle of resurrected beings and dragons – a combination of Eastern narrative themes and Western fantasy. The big question is whether these cycles should be broken or perpetuated. Then there’s a twist: Another Risen One has come into existence and has taken the throne. I won’t say anything more.
5. The decisions I made as a Risen One really affected how the kingdom and its people responded to me, which made me feel like I had real agency in the game’s narrative.
6. Let’s talk about the enemy design in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – it’s awesome. I’m always dealing with very smart enemies. Over time, they even started to learn my strategies, which meant I had to keep changing my approach. You will face huge creatures and you must find their weaknesses. Some challenges are unique, such as having to climb up a chimera and hit it in the head to bring it down.
7. The game’s flexible career system is one of its key advantages. You can unlock classes like warrior or magician and switch between them at will, which helps keep combat fresh and exciting.
8. Now let me talk about pawns and the party system. The Pawns in the game are not only followers of artificial intelligence, they also have their own personalities. You can customize them and you’ll quickly become attached to them. With a few extra tweaks, it almost feels like you’re in a multiplayer environment, even in single-player mode. You can acquire Pawns with very specific professions, allowing you to complete different tasks with solid strategies.
Yes, this is my experience. Most players will be able to complete the main story and all side missions in 100 hours, but for me, it took 150 hours because I’m that kind of player. But I would say, do what I do – give it time. I might even play it again.
