2024 science fiction movies alien romulus It feels a bit like “A Girl and Her Robot.” It’s not a double act, exactly, but the new Ripley’s “brother” Eddie takes care of Wren, and that’s his directive. However, when the going gets tough, this tight-knit duo falls apart.
Based on original characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett, script by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues alien romulusalthough progress is slow, the cracks continue. A bit like Zack Snyder’s remake of Romero’s classic “Dawn of the Dead,” alien romulus Moving at an almost suffocating pace.
From the incubation period to the external threat to the colony, things progress like being on steroids.
This is a very interesting movie.

Then she and her robot received a call from a friend. They told her there was another way to leave the colony.
They discover an outpost with cryopods, which they need to escape the colony. Different groups head to the ship.

Alien is scary
monster inside alien romulus Very scary. They’ve been terrifying since the first movie in the series. alienThe real Ian Holm plays Ash, an unfriendly science officer robot who was and remains truly terrifying.
alien Things are made even more exciting by the threat of multiple aliens vying to hatch in an attempt to save humanity’s terraformed colonies. “Game over, man, game over,” shouts Bill Paxton’s Space Marine. Any one of the three survivors could have yelled the same thing as the little creatures hatched them at a terrifying rate.
effective things
David Jonsson should have won an Oscar for his work here. My first introduction to Jonson was in the advanced remake of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery murder is easy. His performance alone is worth the price of admission.
Spaeny’s performance as Rain, aka the new Ripley, is another actor who should win an award here. She really knocked this one out of the park.
sidewalk scene alien romulusat the end of the movie, is a nod and a wink alien. They amplify things and add a wonderful twist to the whole thing. It works extremely well.
But aside from the homage moments, the entire movie is an exercise in how to engage an audience. Tension, suspense, an overwhelming sense of foreboding, and a tight script make this a great sci-fi/horror film.
The direction and careful camerawork also help make the piece ring like a taut guitar string.
*The ultimate payback moment: Addie, “Stay away from her. Bitch.
things that don’t work
First and foremost? AI Ian Holm joins. It’s jarring. Just like Peter Cushing’s CG face swap Star Wars: A New Hope Did. I’m sure computer versions of deceased actors will improve as our abilities improve. Admittedly, a shaky and somewhat empty version of the real thing has been lost.
This may help.
The score is also deafening. Especially when they discover the xenomorph. It’s all a haunted house choir. The sound of “oooooh” felt out of place and took me immediately out of the moment. These types of sounds belong in a ghost movie genre, not a space thriller/horror movie.
behind the camera
Fede Alvarez, who also co-wrote the script, has a good understanding of how the series works. His eye for detail is impressive. Director of photography Galo Olivares shot every frame with editor Jake Roberts. Naaman Marshall’s production design and the rest of the art team make this a visual treat.
The stunt choreography is top notch and the visual effects are outstanding.
Essentially, the visuals alone are enough to make this work a success.
judgment
alien romulus Earned 4.5 stars. It loses 0.5 stars just because of Ian Holm’s CG creation. This really bothered me and put me in trouble right away. It’s now streaming on Hulu. Go check it out.
