After a brief blind date, Mary Horowitz, a talented but eccentric crossword puzzle maker, becomes convinced that CCN photographer Steve is her soul mate. Since his job requires him to travel extensively, she follows Steve across the country at the encouragement of reporters, appearing at his media events and convincing him that they are the perfect couple. Along the way, she meets a group of misfits who accept her for who she is, causing her to reexamine why she embarked on this strange journey.
