I just got back from NAB, and while I wish I could have stayed the rest of the week, I’m happy to say that I put in a lot of time at the show – including an interview with Blackmagic Design President Dan May.
As most of you already know, Blackmagic has just released two new cameras (the URSA and the new Studio camera) and they have also released a new version of DaVinci Resolve (11) which will now also act as a full-fledged editor system. As you can probably imagine, there was a lot to discuss during the interview, but thankfully we were able to have a pretty extensive 20-minute conversation about all things Blackmagic, which I decided not to cut at all because there was a whole Shared a lot of valuable information.
The purpose of this interview is not to go into detail about all the technical specs of the camera (which are readily available online and which I will also discuss in a future post), but to really explore the philosophy behind Blackmagic’s products, specifically their range of cameras , and DaVinci Resolve 11. We also talked about details about the rest of their camera range – more specifically, what’s happening with their existing cameras, and our stance on a future firmware update for the BMCC/BM4K that will address audio metering, remaining disk space, and more exist.
I’ll be doing a NAB roundup in the next day or so, so check back soon to highlight the key announcements/releases I made at the show and how I believe they will impact our industry this year.
