Anne Lennox is reflecting on the massive tragedy that has unfolded in the Middle East since Hamas launched its deadliest attack yet on Israel a year ago.

“This is a heavy day – a year after the events created a ‘turning point’ in decades of discord and brutality,” Lennox wrote. “I had been hoping things would turn out differently. Better…but tragically – that is not the case. On October 7, 2024, we will face a potential “forever war” situation, and the entire Middle East is on the verge of falling completely into it.
“Today’s professional politicians have no moral compass, the understanding of ‘never again’ has disappeared before their eyes, and ‘human rights’ have been torn to pieces,” she continued. “We humans are capable of both tremendous achievements and unspeakable atrocities.”
The Eurythmics frontman also encouraged followers to “reflect on the sacredness of life…and the qualities of peace, compassion and empathy.”
“I support ceasefire and peace,” she added in her comments. “This is what I ask for. I deplore anti-Semitism as much as I deplore the killing, injury and continued displacement of children, women and innocent Palestinian civilians.
“Of course, I want to see the innocent hostages returned safely to their families,” Lennox concluded. “Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be a priority [Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu and his government.
As the Sweet Dreams artist points out, violence in Gaza has continued since the October 7 attacks. Lennox is not the first musician to support Ceasefire during a crisis.
