arcane Co-creator and showrunner Christian Link The company issued a lengthy statement after some fans criticized the second season for feeling incomplete.
Link also responded after stating that the Jace/Victor ending in Arcane Afterglow was unresolved for him and that they weren’t given more time to flesh out the story.
I said Arcane could have had a third season, and I felt like a third season could have focused on the Jace/Victor storyline.
Regardless, when fans started going crazy over Linke’s comments, he shared the following statement on Reddit to clarify things.
“Some of the theories here are a little too far.
“No, we didn’t ask Fortiche to make a 1 hour and 30 minute finale. Quite the contrary, our scripts were always shorter than what Fortiche ultimately came up with during the storyboarding stage. We wanted them to be inspired and roam freely, so we It’s possible to reel them in and also allow them to discover their own magical moments.
“This is a close creative collaboration rather than some ‘nice vendor company, do your job, achieve the impossible, but do it fast!'” — I think a lot of people at Fortiche are My closest friend. I’m disappointed that people are making these suggestions.
“No, we’re not pressured by ‘corporate greed’ or anything.
“But yes, there are always constraints on budget and time. It’s part of our job as creatives, to work within those constraints. Limitations are normal, and they’re always generous, and I’m always open to any creative ideas. Final word. But they were there in season one, too.
“It would have been nice to have had more time to make a second season, or extra time to add episodes, but we didn’t. For a number of reasons. Budget being one of them.
“We were very lucky to get these absolutely insane budgets from Riot to make Arcane. We all feel very lucky. No one else gets these types of budgets. Don’t forget that.
“Time is another constraint. Having a release window is a massive effort by a lot of people, not just at Fortiche, but across different games at Riot, Netflix, brand partners.
“Put simply, even the show’s key talent is tired of this incredibly long season and multi-year project. Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is just humanity.
“I don’t think there’s any other TV show that has taken as long as two seasons to make without any pause as much as Arcane. Arcane is unparalleled in the sheer scope of high-fidelity animation. I don’t want to use these things as Excuses, but yeah…the job is very demanding on humanity.
“Our second season is fantastic. We’re making you feel like you’ve never felt before watching our animated characters.
“It’s not perfect. You don’t go into these types of big swings expecting everything to be perfectly wrapped up in a neat bow tie. It grew and evolved in its own way and ended up where it is now.
“Has any TV series managed to land so many protagonists, time travel, supernatural abilities, technological inventions, fantasy world stakes, high concepts, complex relationships, and global expectations? I actually don’t know. I’d love to know if people could have thought of that. I can study them.
I do understand why some fans would be upset, but at the same time, the creative team did manage to tell a great story. I also understand why they could expand on certain elements of the story. But eventually. They have to tell the story they want to tell.
what do you think arcane it’s over?
