On Friday night (December 20), Barack Obama took to his social media accounts to reveal his list of favorite songs of the year, as well as his favorite movies and books of 2024.
“This is my favorite song of the year! If you want to change up your playlist, check them out and tell me if there’s a song or artist I should definitely listen to,” the former US president said in a post that included 25 songs Title added to Song Featured post.
Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up” is the first song on Obama’s list, which includes Billie Eilish’s “Lunch,” Asaka ) and Travis Scott’s “Active,” Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” Leon Bridges’ “Peaceful Place,” Jack “Peaceful Place” by Jack White.
Several songs have earned coveted spots on both Obama’s summer playlist (shared in August) and his list of favorite music for 2024.
“Rema” by Yayo, “Jump” by Tyla, Gunna and Skillibeng, “Bar Song (Drunk)” by Shaboozey, “Old Dutch” by Bonny Light Horseman, “Texas Hold ‘Em” by Beyoncé, “I Like the” by Artemas Way You Kiss Me,” Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” and Miles Smith’s “Stargazer” are all on Obama’s summer and year-end lists.
Some of Obama’s favorite songs of 2024 are in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 year-end chart: Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (No. 2 on the Hot 100), Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” (10th place).
Obama narrows down his favorite movies of 2024 to 10, including Everything we imagine is light, Conclave, Piano Lessons, Promised Land, Seed of the Sacred Fig, Dune: Part 2, Anora, Didi, Cane and Completely unknown.
His book list also only has 10 selections (and a reminder to support independent bookstores and libraries).
