Burt Wardthe actor who played robin in the classic 1960s film batman Series side by side Adam Westseems to have a great indissoluble bond with the legendary warrior bruce lee. One of the most memorable episodes of Batman was when Ward had to fight Lee, in this case the two actually fought each other, and they didn’t have a stunt double.
You might think that Ward fighting someone like Bruce Lee would be scary, but he had fought Bruce Lee so many times that it was actually something he looked forward to. Ward’s fighting skills are indeed good! The actor said on The Jim and Sam Show in 2017:
“I love the fight scenes because I’m a black belt in karate and I was just inducted into the International Karate and Taekwondo Hall of Fame, which is a huge honor. I started in 1959, the same year it came to the United States. I was in first grade. [when] Karate comes to America.
So how did Ward and Lee meet and quarrel? Well, they lived in the same apartment building and ended up becoming good friends:
“Bruce Lee and I lived in the same building. We used to fight together. In fact, I knew him when I was doing Batman [and] His wife, Linda, and their son Brandon were just six months old at the time. We would go to Chinatown and order all the most authentic food. Because he has lived in China or Hong Kong for 10 years.
In 1967, Lee played the Green Hornet character Kato in “Batman.” The episode is titled “Batman’s Satisfaction” and features Kato and Robin facing off in an epic battle. Ward considered this scene the launch of Lee’s Hollywood career, saying:
“Bruce Lee’s first fight scene in his career was with me in ‘Batman,’ and since then he has become the most famous movie martial artist in the world.”
Ward went on to talk about Lee’s character and his kindness to him:
“I see him a lot and he trains eight hours a day. He’s very arrogant, but he’s also a very nice guy and he’s very smart – he’s a very nice guy and very nice to me. He has a great sense of humour. Feeling. He’s just a really nice guy.
It’s so interesting and cool to come across information like this that I didn’t know before!
