The BBC Radio 6 Music Festival will return next spring and has found a permanent location in Greater Manchester.
The four-day event is scheduled to take place between 26 and 29 March 2025 and will bring live performances and DJ sets to various venues across the region. The news was announced live this morning (December 3) by broadcaster Nick Grimshaw, who is currently covering the 6 Music breakfast show, and regular presenter Lauren Laverne ) is recovering from cancer treatment. Laverne will return to the show in the New Year.
Throughout the festival, the 6 Music team will be broadcasting live from MediaCity UK in Salford. Current hosts include Iggy Pop, Huw Stephens, Mary Anne Hobbs and former London night czar Amy Lamé.
The sixth edition of the festival is the station’s flagship event, broadcast across multiple BBC radio stations, television and online channels. The festival has been taking place in Greater Manchester since 2023, with previous festivals taking place in different UK cities each year, including Cardiff, London, Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle.
Samantha Moy, head of BBC Radio 6 Music, said in a press release: “We’re extremely proud that our festival brings listeners truly unique performances from their favorite artists, while celebrating the brilliant acts emerging from across Greater Manchester. – 2025 will be no different. We’re really looking forward to bringing the whole station to Greater Manchester again and enjoying four days of incredible live music.
The lineup for the sixth edition of the festival in 2025 will be announced in February. Big names like Young Fathers, Gossip and The Smile performed at the 2024 event, while acts like CMAT and Hak Baker also made appearances over the weekend.
In January 2014, the BBC launched the sixth edition of the festival in Manchester, starring Damon Albarn. In the following years, world-renowned artists including Depeche Mode, Fontaines DC, Father John Misty and Neneh Cherry would all appear at the event.
