Ringo Starr was joined by his fellow Beatle Paul McCartney at the Paul McCartney Show in London last night (December 19) The final night of the global “Got Back” tour at the O2 Arena.
During the show’s encore, the drummer performed “Sgt.” behind his drum kit. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Encore)” and “Helter Skelter.” Watch the clip below.
After paying tribute to late bandmate John Lennon in “I’ve Got A Feeling,” McCartney told an excited audience: “We have another surprise for you. The powerful, one-of-a-kind Ringo… Mr. Starr took the stage and the two embraced onstage, before McCartney quipped: “Should we rock? Sing your ‘Kit la’ to Ringo before the two songs come out.”
The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood also appeared on stage during the show, playing guitar on “Got Back.” McCartney introduced the song by talking about his old bass guitar that was stolen over 50 years ago and eventually returned after a public appeal. McCartney placed Hefner on stage and revealed that this was the bass’s first appearance since its disappearance: “I haven’t played it in 50 years.”
The “Got Back” tour began in 2022, with the 82-year-old performing across the globe, including a headlining performance at England’s Glastonbury Festival in June of that year. He then went on to run across the U.S. and Latin America, eventually playing some shows in Europe and the U.K. over the past few weeks.
The night was a star-studded event, with Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Kate Moss, Dame Judi Dench, Greta Gerwig and other big names in the crowd.
Additionally, he delivered a festive surprise with his 1979 song “What a Wonderful Christmas,” accompanied by the Capital City Choir, which filled the venue with snowflakes.
Elsewhere, he performed many Beatles classics including “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude” and “Something,” as well as “Wings” and solo material cuts such as “Live and Let Die” and “Band On The Run”. The Beatles looked visibly emotional at the end of “Now and Then,” their “last” song to be released in 2023, which was completed using assistive artificial intelligence. McCartney had no further performances in the near future, but concluded by promising the audience that “we’ll see you again soon.”
