The film has been shown at major film festivals to rave reviews and has been hailed as Jolie’s career-defining performance. The film also stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Valeria Golino, Kody Smit-McPheeand Haruk Birkina. The script is written by Steven Knight.
The synopsis of the film reads: “Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie stars as Maria Callas, one of the most iconic actors of the 20th century in Pablo Larrain’s opera Maria.
The story follows a Greek-American soprano who retreats into seclusion in Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. Maria reimagines her identity and life during the legendary soprano’s final days.
