The Grammys often talk about respecting the artist’s intent. Their screening committees have done so in at least two cases this year, allowing Beyoncé Cowboy Carter contending for best country album, along with Dolly Parton’s rock star Competing for best rock album. Both albums could have been included in the Best Pop Vocal Album category, but the Grammys agreed with the artists’ intentions.
Albums often sit on the border between two or more genres. This is bound to happen more and more as artists increasingly cross genre lines. In these cases, the Recording Academy’s screening committee will work to classify the candidate into the most appropriate category.

In other news, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones may have their first-ever Grammy showdown. Both legendary groups were shortlisted for Best Rock Performance – The Beatles for “Now and Then” and the Rolling Stones for “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” (featuring Lady Gaga). If both groups are nominated, it will be the first time they face off on a Grammy ballot. During the band’s heyday, the Grammys created a backlash against rock. The Beatles were a band that shook the world and were often nominated, but the Rolling Stones were not. in any category until 1978 some girls Nominated for Album of the Year.
The first round of voting begins on Friday (October 4). Voters have until October 15 to make their first-round selections. Nominations will be announced on November 8th.
