Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13 was an emotional roller coaster filled with heartbreaking and infuriating stories that showed viewers the best of the series.
I don’t know what I prefer: Frank urging the mayor and fire commissioner to act like public servants rather than spoiled brats or the toll that Danny’s case has taken on him.
But I do know one thing: I’m grateful we got to see the last few episodes, although I still wish we had more.
Mira Sorvino as Veronica Radley is a strong addition to the cast
Radley is a younger, more arrogant version of Frank: she’s a thorn in the mayor’s side and will stand up for her people even when it’s not politically expedient.
However, she is no less stubborn and naive than Mayor Chase.
If you’re a firefighter, throwing eggs at his car is no longer a valid form of protest, whereas getting into a war of words on Twitter (side note: I love how Blue Bloods refuses to call it X) should be regardless Regardless of their political stance, they are lower than civil servants.
Frank got involved because he thought he could mentor Radley, who had been dealing with Chase’s nonsense for years. However, this made matters worse as neither Radley nor Chase would budge.
Chase: I had a scheduling problem. I have to make a choice.
Frank: Don’t poke the FDNY in the eye with a sharp stick.
Chase: She started it.
Frank: No, you started by skipping funerals and going to rallies. I call on you both to stop this behavior. Serve the city, not your ego.
Frank imploring them both to serve the city rather than themselves is one of his best lines ever, and I wish many of us true so-called public servants understood this.
In this divided country, too many people who are supposed to be leading put themselves first. We need more public servants like Frank who understand the public part of their job title.
Frank treated his two colleagues like misbehaving children, which was deserved and wise.
They don’t like this, and it gives him a chance to subtly remind them that they are supposed to be highly intelligent and accomplished adults, not kindergarteners fighting over hurt feelings.
Before the two came to any conclusions, the end credits of Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13 had already played.
However, Radley has at least two more episodes scheduled so Chase won’t fire her, no matter what stupid plan he has when he walks into the room.
This plan doesn’t make much sense. If Radley’s approval ratings are rising and Chase’s are floundering because of their public spats, how does firing her help, especially considering that Chase is someone who has to please voters to keep her job? Woolen cloth?
Still, Frank’s attempts at mediating the conflict go far better than the usual narrative that cops and firefighters hate each other for some reason that’s incomprehensible to the uninitiated.
If Frank could effectively mediate the argument between Irene and Henry, they would not be fighting with each other for no reason.
Erin takes over from Jamie as Henry’s unpopular protector on Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13
There was only one thing that made Henry uncomfortable enough to prevent him from transplanting a kidney to his family, and that was treating him like a frail old man.
He’s tried to get Jamie to remember this multiple times, most recently in Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 4, where Jamie was convinced Henry couldn’t handle the anti-cop podcast.
The story is similar, except the one who thinks Henry doesn’t know what he’s getting into is Irene.
Henry: Proceed with caution. I don’t want to accuse a respected bureau chief of tampering with witnesses.
Erin: When I cross that threshold, I’m just your granddaughter.
Henry: In that case, let’s work hard.
Erin: Are you crazy?
Henry: I didn’t expect you to attack me with two buckets.
Erin handles her conflicts with Henry the same way she handles her conflicts with Frank. She came at him with double barrels of fire, much to the dismay of both men.
Henry’s hurt feelings and Eileen’s refusal to apologize lead to one of the most unpleasant Reagan family dinners in Blue Bloods history. Eileen and Henry declare that they do not want each other’s kidneys but refuse to talk about it.
I wish Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13 had more time to show the family dinner scene. Frank doesn’t usually allow this kind of conflict at his dinner table and I wish he had made more of an effort to get things back on track.
If Henry or Eileen had stopped and thought for a minute, they might have understood each other’s point of view and avoided unnecessary arguments.
While Henry’s case of blowing up the cops on the witness stand was a surprising turn, in retrospect, it’s likely that was his plan all along.
The defense attorney was an idiot and called him to testify without knowing what he was going to say. However, it’s his incompetence that allows Henry to wipe that nasty smile off the ex-cop’s face before he reconciles with Irene that makes the story worthwhile.
Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13 also made me feel better about Henry’s fate because he was his normal self instead of mentioning his death.
Danny seems fed up Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13
I’m not sure what happened to Danny.
He looked exhausted for much of the episode. He didn’t like climbing stairs, but more importantly, the case took an emotional toll on him.
It’s hard to blame him for being unhappy.
Grady suffered a traumatic brain injury from a childhood accident that left him unable to care for himself and suffered from severe short-term memory loss, but Danny was supposed to put him in charge of helping dump the bodies into storage lockers.
Grady doesn’t understand what’s going on and is horrified after his mother’s arrest and needs to be treated as a vulnerable adult and taken to a facility where he can get the care he needs, but before that can be arranged, Danny Tell him again how it is.
Anyone would be exhausted after working on this case, but it seems there’s more going on.
The whole mess that happened in the dinner scene about who gets to give who a kidney starts with Danny assuring everyone that his organ is fine even though he’s getting older, which makes me wonder if he’ll meet him at the end of Blue Bloods To some kind of mid-life crisis upwards.
Eddie and Badillo feud again on Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13
Jamie has no story, which is a shame. I hope he gets involved with Grady because he’s always great at helping people with mental health issues de-escalate.
Addie, on the other hand, has a strange story that puts her at odds with Badillo.
I sympathize with Ray and his daughter and agree with Eddie that arresting Ray for impersonating a police officer is senseless and cruel. However, Nico chooses to put civil disobedience before agreeing to donate a kidney.
If he doesn’t want to risk jail time while undergoing surgery, he should avoid walking along the ledge while shouting that the police won’t stop his protest.
Badillo doesn’t piss me off because he takes a tougher stance than Eddie does. This is normal no matter who Eddie works with.
However, he got a little too satisfied with his quasi-celebrity status after saving Nico’s life in Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 13.
I don’t like how proud he is of being in someone’s TikTok video, or how he’s constantly jokingly acting in front of the camera.
I don’t think he was entirely kidding, and I don’t want police officers on the street doing their job in a way that gets them the most views on social media.
