British alternative rock band Sports Team were hit hard during their latest US tour when they were reportedly robbed at gunpoint.
According to a press release, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Tuesday (December 3) at a Starbucks in Vallejo, California, just outside of San Francisco. The band had kicked off their West Coast tour with a show at San Francisco’s Kilowatt the night before, but the band’s brief stop was interrupted by a bystander who alerted them that their station wagon had been ransacked and robbed.
“The band tried to intervene but were attacked with guns brandished and hid,” the press release explains. “The band called the police and were shocked to learn they would not be going to the crime scene.
“Instead, police told them to file a report online, which they did. Laptops, personal belongings, passports and other valuables were stolen.
The group also shared video of the incident on social media, adding their own account of how it unfolded.
“Stopped for coffee. A man ran in and said someone had hit a truck,” they wrote. “Run out and try to stop it, only to find masked men ransacking the van. They started yelling and they had their guns drawn. Police responded by ‘submit an online report.’ Lost a lot of personal gear, but they didn’t get an instrument, so drove to Sacramento tonight to play.
