Candace Cameron Burr Full house The child star, known to fans as the Queen of Christmas, isn’t slowing down.
The star is popular for her role in the show Full house and its Netflix spin-off fuller housenot to mention the countless Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel. Cameron Bure transitioned to the Great American Family channel as an executive in 2022 and has continued to deliver a steady stream of films, including two Christmas movies this year: A Christmas with few people traveling and Sweet Christmas Home.
with hollywood reporterThe prolific actor discusses what she’s looking for in a new holiday movie, why she passed on a project with Cameron Matheson and then found another with him, which she produces Plans for a Rare Christmas Movie Sequel She and Full house cast and her reaction to headlines from a previous interview about GAF’s priorities.
When you decide on a new Christmas project, are you looking for something you haven’t done yet, or are you looking to learn more about what works for your audience?
A little bit of both. I read a lot of Christmas plays throughout the year. I was looking for something that felt fresh to me and resonated with my audience. Especially for the Great American Family channel – we believe in movies and our channel’s slogan is “Christmas Is What It Is” – I’m looking for things that really touch the heart and have more meaning than just Christmas magic or santa claus for christmas. When I read a script, I can usually tell within the first 15 to 20 pages whether it’s going to appeal to me or if it’s a story I’ve heard a hundred times.
Earlier this year, you announced that you would be co-starring with Cameron Matheson in a new Christmas movie, and you noted that the two of you would be working on different scripts. Are there many Christmas scripts that can usually be produced right away?
Normally, we hope that’s never the case, but this year, it’s certainly the case. We do have a script, Jingle bells, wedding bellswe thought it would be good for both of us. As we got into some of the production elements, I quickly realized that this was probably not going to be the best movie we could make. I quickly pulled the plug. when we reread Sweet Christmas HomeI was like, “Actually, this is a better movie for the two of us,” because we play these reunited childhood friends. It felt a lot like Cameron and I in that we had been friends for a long time but had never worked together.
Fans are excited about the prospect of the two of you working together. Do you often want to work with actors like this?
Cameron is one of them because we are the main actors in this genre. It’s crazy to think that we haven’t done a movie together yet. I don’t even know if I’ve ever had a repeat co-star because I love working with new people and I love bringing new faces to our channel. But Cameron and I actually work well together, so we’re actually considering doing a sequel to this movie. The fans really enjoyed it.
I know your 2022 interview on “The Great American Family” sparked headlines about the channel’s emphasis on traditional marriage, and later, your ex Full house Co-star Jodie Sweetin wasn’t happy about her movie being picked up by a network. Will it find it difficult to communicate the network’s values if viewers are unfamiliar with its programming?
Talking to the media is really difficult. While we appreciate the media directing people to our channel, there is still a risk that answers may be taken out of context. This actually happened to me when I moved to the Great American Family, it was a very difficult time and it was difficult to be misunderstood in this way. But I would say we are a relatively new pipeline. This is only our fourth year celebrating Christmas. As with any new business, you have your core group of people and what you are looking for, and you will produce a product that best suits that audience. Most networks don’t try to satisfy everyone’s needs. What really differentiates our channel from others is that we are not afraid to talk about God and His role in our lives rather than about fate or providence.
This is a divisive time for our country. Is that something you think about when you’re making a film and maybe trying to unite an audience?
Yes, that’s always been the spirit of all the films I’ve made. God loves us all, so that is the spirit in which I create everything.
The death of Bob Saget is a great loss. Have there been recent discussions about reverting to a new version? Full house?
We haven’t had any discussion about it yet. fuller house Netflix has been a huge success, but I don’t think there will be another iteration. If they want to be successful, I think we’re all going to be involved. We are still very close.
You are still very prolific. What are your plans for next year?
I will probably do four to five more films in 2025.
